Compression Tool is Broken

Hello!

The RPG Maker's compression tool is not working. (Not mentioning it's terrible in general) I had always problems with the packed by it games, because they're working slow or break. (I prefer do download games in rar, not in this 'joker')

The Issue

When I want to compress my game it works fine, the game is compressed 'successfully' (yeah, right), HOWEVER!, when I'll try to open that to unpack it... Nothing happens... The task appears in the 'Task Manager' but absolutely nothing happens. (besides freezing my desktop sometimes).

Trying to open that multiple times causes lots of the same processes opened in the task manager, but still nothing happens. (besides freezing)

What is worse, there's no way to kill these tasks, the only way is to restart PC.

How it looks?

Besides 20 of the same processes in the task manager, this is the absolutely common issue:

It says, that you cannot do anything, because the file is being used. (What a frustrating joke) 

I tried

- Compressing other projects (fresh too), but the same issue appears.

- Restarting PC multiple times, the same fate again and again...

- Reinstalling the whole RPG Maker VX Ace, but still no effect.

Now, that brings me a question - What should I do with this terrible tool?

I'm kinda frustrated, since it wasted ~5 days of heavy work (completed game for a contest)

Any ideas? Thank you for help...

First, the compression tool is not broken in general, or there would be others complaining about it.


That means whatever the cause is, it is something on your computer specifically - and we need to search for that cause.


1) can you provide a link to the broken exe? because we need to check if the installer is broken or if something on your computer has blocked it.


2) did you try to deinstall and reinstall Ace? because it could be that your editor is damaged.

1) I made a new project and compressed it. I uploaded it, here's the link and then tried to open it. +1 to broken task. - now I can't do anything with this file.

First, the compression tool is not broken in general, or there would be others complaining about it.

For me is broken in general. It always had weird behavior, though I'm not saying, that everybody has it broken.

that is a private googledrive link, I can't download it - you either have to set it to public or give a link from a different filehoster

That's weird, it is set to allow people with link to see/download this.

It says, that it doesn't require logging in. (Google joke I guess) ~ I changed it to public, try now.

(If still not, where I can upload it then?)

nope - still getting to the login screen instead of the file itself...


Might be something from google, can you try to use another service?

That's really odd, nobody was complaining about not accessible files before. (I'm hosting my games here)

Hmm... What other file hosting services are good? (I bet I'll have to create a random account)

Which means the problem is not the compressing, but that something outside of RM (probably an antivirus or security program) blocks the extraction of the installer.

Yes, it was caused by 'Avast', though I didn't do anything, so why it decided to block it in the worst moment ever?...

Anyway I'll check that later. Thank you so much for help and sorry for the chaos I've created.

I can't believe such a simple thing wasted 5 nearly full days of my work. . .

So you were right Andar, the compression tool is terrible not by itself ~ but because of Avast. This antivirus is asking for uninstalling.
