I recently got excited to start a project in this maker, but that quickly dwindled upon booting up a test game and finding that controllers did not work. That's a major deal breaker for me, and many game players nowadays.

I'm hoping I'm just mistaken and there is a way to enable this. If not, I will start building an altar to Cherry and hope this can get addressed at some point as its probably the biggest QOL thing missing right now

Controllers should work just fine (since 1.12 also with dpad). The only issue here could be controllers only support the decision, cancel and shift keys and not the numerical keys.

That's really strange, I wonder why mine isn't working. Using an Xbox One controller. Tried unplugging/plugging back in several times, and on all different USB ports. Tried sample game, new project, and old project of mine.

Controller works 100% fine for every other game/software I use on regular basis....

EDIT: Completely uninstalled RM2K3 and reinstalled. Controller still doesn't work. I've tried two different Xbox One controllers as well as a retro SNES type gamepad. All of which work for any other application on my computer.

Please use the windows game controller window and make screenshots of how it behaves for the keypresses and controller movement. Also, is it by chance registered as controller #2? It must be the first one. Maybe you have a virtual controller software (vJoy for example) installed as first controller instead?

Did you tried plugging the controller before starting the game executable? Otherwise, plugging after the game starts won't work in any way.

It works now, it appears the issue is that, on my Windows 10, there was a relatively hidden option in the advanced properties of the controllers setup that had something like "use which controller for older software" and that was not set. So I set it to the xbox controller and suddenly it worked.

Doesn't make me super excited about the prospect of other people eventually playing a game and possibly having to troubleshoot that, but at least it seems fixable.

I can just say that I bought a controller (in order to fix the D-Pad thing in RM), and it's the first controller I ever connected to this PC, and it instantly worked in RM. I have Windows 10 as well.

So I guess that most people will not have this problem because it appears that it works by default (it worked for Archeia as well) - maybe something was messed up with this setting on your computer specifically...

Well, I think you should mention this in the readme of your game anyway with the way to fix it in case someone else has this issue as well.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
