I had this thought for a long time. Fossil Fighters is one of my favorite games to play when I was a kid. Now I am thinking if I could recrate it with RPG maker VX Ace.

For those who don't know, fossil fighters is an rpg where you ressurect prehistoric animals that have elemental powers, you make a team of 5, and you send them out to fight other elemental dinosaurs.

Here is the trailer for Fossil Fighters and its sequel Fossil Fighters Champions.

I am curious if this is possible to recreate using RPG Maker VX Ace, or would I need a different engine to do so.

Strictly speaking, except for the 3D part, you can achieve anything with VX Ace, the main point is how much effort and skills you can put into it.

What I am thinking is I would want to impliment the fossil finding, cleaning up the fossil rock, and have a team of 3 of these prehistoric animals fight.

For the combat, I was wondering if there is a way to determine hit and crit chance based on the attack element of the character or skill.

As long as you are willing to use complex events and/or scripts, it is definitely possible to achieve what you are trying to do.

Of course, you have to spend some time and effort to figure out how to properly set up your events/scripts to do that.

this will require a reprogramming of the basic battle mechanic.
It is possible and has been done before (in many variants), but if you have to go that deep you might consider using a more current maker.

The problem is that Ace was the last Ruby-based maker, the later makers switched to javascript - and that means a lot of the community did as well.
If you can already program in Ruby/RGSS then this is no problem, but if you have to learn programming or ask others to program for you, then newer makers and javascript might be a better option to learn.
Especially considering the other advantages of doing so.

In the end I choose near over shoulder resembles RE4. Tight close window better. The correlation between battleback, monster style and battler should also be observed and merged.

I'm going to see if I can set up a triple booting setup. Windows for standard use & gaming, debian for linux development and manjaro for linux gaming, wine & proton use.
