I had an idea and wanted feedback on if it is good/bad/interesting/etc.

Instead of putting the school tiles I purchased into my game, I instead made the rooms/Game Over into images and use the images in the game. This would be fine for small games where there isn't many rooms (maps). On large games this wouldn't be practical.

A little side note on this:
This works out quite well because I don't use any of the school tiles in the events. If you use events with the tiles, this wouldn't work (as far as I am aware).

I know there can be issues when having the resources added into games and others using them when they haven't purchased them. This was the thought behind what I did.

What is your feedback on this?

What you've done is called parallaxing, and is commonly used by people to avoid the grid-based layout and make things more natural.

You could still use the images in events, either by adding the tilesets or putting them into character sheets.

The downside to what you're doing is that it usually takes longer, and you end up with larger files because you're using images that are the size of the map (if you have a pot plant that you use 10 times, it takes up 10 times the space in the file), rather than one image that's drawn multiple times on a map, but only takes the space of that one image in the file.

I actually did that for my original Game Over screen. I just made a map as big as the screen, tiled it, showed the events I wanted and the text I wanted, then took a screenshot of that, converted it to a picture and made that picture the Game Over screen the game called. The result is in the spoiler:

As you can see I have to fix the shadows still, but otherwise I am happy with the results.

Is this a discussion about the use of tiles in parallax mapping? Or the use of individual graphic events with mapping?

This is a discussion about what I have done (using images that include some but not all of the purchased resource) is a good idea or not. There is plus and I am sure minus points for it. I just wanted to get opinions.

Can you provide some kind of example? (For demonstration purposes)

Conceptually, it sounds like parallax mapping; using Phototshop/Paint.net/Gimp instead of the map editor.

@CodeHunterEx We have a thread, Game and Map Screenshots, which would give you feedback on your maps. 'General Discussion' is not for giving feedback on individual projects. If that is what you want, then this thread will have to be closed.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
