Creating a Skill That Inflicts Status On The User?

Hi All.

First time poster here, so sorry if this is breaking any rules but,

I'm trying to create a skill that will inflict a status effect on the user, not on the enemy. I've tried making a skill that activates a common event which inflicts the status to a certain character but that doesn't seem to be working.

Any idea why or if there's something else I could try?

Do you mean, inflict a status on the user AND attack the enemy?

If that skill should only affect the user, simply change the scope to user.


If that skill should affect the user in addition to dealing damage to the enemy, use javascript commands in the damage formula


There is a topic about the MV damage formula, search for it and check the available commands there.

Thanks for the quick replies! Yeah, Its an attack that simulates siphoning damage from an enemy. It only would do damage on the initial attack but you should recover health over time via the status effect.

I haven't had to use java script commands before. Do I literally copy and past one into the damage formula line?

In VXA it was like

dam=<your formula here>;a.add_state(X);dam I guess it works the same, the ";" might be different, but I think add_state still works.

a.addState(x);<damages formula here>With x as the ID number of the state :)
