RPG Maker Forums

Hey guys, since it's really easy to get burned out when making a game, I thought it'd be nice if we had a support thread for help and inspiration!

Post your tips and tricks on how you stay motivated, fight a creative block or show off some improvement to inspire others! The tips can be as general as you'd like, or focus specifically on writing/art/music etc.

If you'd like, feel free to talk specifically about a time you struggled with your game, and how you overcame it.

So here are some of my tips on staying motivated!
  • Get an action plan together. Post about your goals in the (month) Goals and Progress Thread (in General Discussion), now that you've publicly committed, the pressure is on to not disappoint! Take your goals and split each task into a tick list. Add as many baby steps as you'd like, so you can tick it off as you go and remember that you are progressing achieving things, even if you've only added one new event- it still counts!
  • Jump around, don't just do all your favourite parts first, or try to cram in days of doing the things you don't enjoy as much to get it over with, you'll just make yourself miserable. Do a bit of what you don't like, then relax and reward yourself with something you do. Keep shaking up your schedule to keep things interesting.
  • Talk to other people about your game. Having someone else who is hyped and excited for your game will inspire you to keep going, plus when you're feeling down they'll hopefully be able to give you a pep talk and get you back on your feet!
And some improvement on my sprites and maps from 2015-2017!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
