Creature / Monster ideas

Anyone have any ideas of interesting creatures for a monster taming kind of game? I do actually have a large list ready but I'm curious about what others might like to see. (Don't share any ideas you want for yourself or tell me if that's the case) They don't have to be overcomplicated, like Pokémon does it nowadays with mixing like 17 different concepts into one creature. I might try to create some of them, I need experience in making things on purpose xD

Yup, I already have some piggies but they are a lot more sheep then pig tbf.

I could make a pre-evolution of my boar though, it could be more pig-like and then evolve into a powerful boar.



Maybe name it Hogrunt or something xD

Made a full evolution line for Hamgry 1st versions at least, might change them later.

Ain't that right tho! Creepy fishy fishies! But the deep oceans are full of weird creatures. Ima... shut up about them and let you live yo life the best you can... with the knowledge of the existence of goblin sharks.

Not quite as creepy as planned but....I suppose I can use this xD I am often not able to create exactly what I plan for but I always create something xD

Kind of looks like a shark mouse or rat....Hmm isn't shark a way of saying ''con man'' or ''crook''? and so is rat. So this guy is untrustworthy as all hell

Yeah me too honey! For me, tho, it's part of the joy of the process. I'd hate it if things always turned like I thought!

I have nothing substantial to contribute (but I'll try my best after I say what I want to say.)

But...
I really like your designs. Giving me all sorts of Pokémon Gold nostalgia. These were the types of designs I really liked best from Pokémon. I feel like starting from Gen 3 it's designs started shifting and now new Pokémon look like the come from a completely different game than the OG 1st and 2nd Gen.
Also, I've seen a lot of games try to capture Pokémon's glory, but something about the designs in those games always feel so...forgettable. Like if I ask my mom to draw a Pokémon that's what she'd come up with. But some how, you get it.

Uh...but to remain on topic...it's like slapping 2 things together with some creative liberties right?
I think more unique animals from specific regions on earth would be a good idea. Like, in Texas we have a few whacky animals. Armadillo is pretty well known, but we have horned lizards and snapping turtles.

I'd maybe combine a few culturally specific things with other cultures. Like what would a Mexican Pancho look like on a Japanese yokai? Or would people think that's racist?

Thanks! I totally agree about the gens which is odd because I skipped gen 2 as a kid It's a shame that Gen 1 and 2 lack what I consider essential gameplay features like special split and abilities. Its difficult to go back sometimes even if the style is great. (Fan games ftw fixes that ofc)

I have a deviant profile (Same name) filled with fakemon/fusions and recolors of gen 2. Its how I learned pixel art to begin with and why I was a little nervous that they would look too similar (As I believed that might be an issue).

Armadillo is on my list, either Armadrillo (Metal themed) or Armachillo (Cold) I think Just because I like the names xD

Horned Lizard sounds badass and I deffo want to have a snapping turtle. The idea of a turtle with high speed stat is interesting. Maybe ill make a rabbit that is slow too to have a theme going

I have no idea what people find racist nowadays but Idc about that stuff, it seems more political then actual concern anyway as far as I can see. But Yokai is deffo something I will need to check too, I know a lot of pokemon are based on them too but I can interpret them differently

I would love to see opossums in a game! They're underappreciated creatures and my favorite, so I admit I'm biased. Male opossums also get surprisingly large, and mother opossums carry the babies around on their back, so that would be cool to see maybe as a final evolution for some rare/'shiny' variants of the female opossums?

But also, I too wish I had not searched for goblin sharks :')

I suppose they look more like rats, the random Idea I had was that its tail is like iron and can keep it up by itself and possibly even walk with them, making the possum fat from laziness of not having to move on its own xD

I'm not sure if it will fit with the aesthetic of your others, but back when I was making a Pokémon fangame set (incidentally called Black and White, before B&W were ever an official thing) I had an evolution line called Curio, Mistree and Enygma. Curio was basically a question-mark Unown, with the evolutions adding additional curved limbs resembling question marks and I think it had extra eyes.

I also had legendaries called Yangri and Yingra, which were somewhat reminiscent design-wise of Palkia and Dialga. I wish I still had the sprites SovanJedi did for me, they were awesome.

I had a baby Snorlax called Napsnor, a baby Lapras called Lapele, and a thing called Noasnif that was basically a snake with a nose for a head.

This is what came to my mind. The first is basically just an earth worm in the form of a question mark, the shed tail or half acting as the dot.

Then its more like loch ness monster like worm also shaped kind of like a question mark.

Then its chaos xD



Not making anything related to Pokemon myself but a Yin Yang monster sounds interesting.

That's an interesting idea with the tail! :0 (Though I will say opossums aren't rodents, but marsupials - closer to kangaroos and koalas )

Also, I LOVE the yin and yang (especially the yang one) and worm monsters!! Dusclops is my favorite Ghost type, so I have a soft spot for one-eyed monsters. XD
