When editing my project in Ace, the program will crash whenever I save the project. It saves everything fine, but still closes every time. Most times it just closes. No error, no warning, it's just like I clicked the x. The error message(below) comes up when I click the save button on toolbar, but when I use the shortcut (CTRL + S) it just closes to the desktop.

I'm using Windows 8 and the steam version of Ace, if that should change a lot. The project is a group project, but the crash is only happening to me (as such restarting it isn't really an option). I don't know why it gets this, but if anyone knows what could cause it then I'd be very happy to try to fix it.

I've tried Re-installing Ace and rebooting my computer, neither have worked so far.

Just in case it matters, the size of the data files:

  • Actors - 4KB
  • Animations - 244KB
  • Armors 12KB
  • Classes - 23KB
  • Common Events - 74KB
  • Enemies - 1KB
  • Items - 7KB
  • Map 1 - 12KB
  • Map 2 - 6KB
  • Map 3 - 40KB
  • Map 4 - 3KB
  • (The project has more than 4 maps, but I'm just testing with 4 of them)
  • Map Infos - 1KB
  • Scripts - 283KB
  • Skills - 30KB
  • States - 5KB
  • System - 12KB
  • Tilesets - 82KB
  • Troops - 1KB
  • Weapons - 14KB

That looks like a problem in your windows or on your hard drive.

What are the compatibility settings for running ace?

Which folder/path are you using to save (there are a few special folders where windows changes the handling, you should never store something there)

What are your access rights? Does the same happen when you run the program as admin?

Sorry for not responding earlier, I had to go to work. It only happens for the one group project. All others function completely fine with the way I normally launch, as I have been for this project. I'm the only person who encounters this error, though, and it's only with this project, so I don't really understand what's causing it.

Then it's unlikely that it's a compatibility setting.

That means the other two options are much more likelier because those settings can be different for each folder - especially if this is a shared project and you're copying the files from and to other computers or use a synchronising software on that folder...

No, it's not synced automatically, we just collaborate and send things back and forth as needed (probably not the most efficient way, but it's good enough for us). Running it as an administrator doesn't have any other effect, and I tried moving the project folder around (I tried my downloads (the original folder), My Documents, and then the folder created by RPG Maker in My Documents), and all of them have the same crash.

Could it possibly be that the project was started on a non-steam version of RPG Maker, and the Steam API causes some sort of incompatibility? I don't really know what else it could be besides a difference in projects made in the Steam version vs. the Non-steam version.

So I've found the answer, finally. As it turns out, it's due to the beta on steam for RPG Maker integration with the steam cloud (I had forget I had signed up for this at the time of posting the issue). Opting out of the beta has fixed my encounters with the error. A mod or admin is free to close this as solved, now.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
