"Will the sky be always our limit?" -Pamela Highwind

Long ago, a war between humans and demons loomed.
The demons were led by warlords known as the Deva Shadows, elite demons that came from the deepest part of the Void.
Darkness overtook Cromwell as the demon forces advanced, and hopelessness took root in the hearts of the people.

However, a group of heroic warriors shone forth through the dark. Known as the Greatest Five, they fought for the freedom of the human world.
The Greatest Five rallied their brothers in arms, defeating the demon armies in a string of battles, driving them back into the Void. The Deva Shadows, however, did not fall without recompense...

In the last battle, the greatest of the Deva Shadows, an arch-demon known as Silvanus, emerged. As the human armies appeared to gain the upper hand, Silvanus crashed through their ranks, sundered their forces and faced the Greatest Five alone. One by one, the brave warriors fell before Silvanus. Until the last of the Five, known as Larxon Reinhart, defeated the arch-demon at the cost of his own life.

After this Pyrrhic victory...Cromwell rises from the ashes of war. Hope is glowing in the hearts of the people as they seek a new start.
Following these events, Clovis Reinhart, who was orphaned because of Larxon's death, left his home at a very young age. Searching for his destiny, he was found by Pamela Highwind, the captain of the airship named Avarice.
With the help of Pamela and her crew, Clovis shall set forth and discover his fate...the reason why he's alive.

...more to come.

- XAS Battle System: Do you want an action packed battle system? Thanks to XAS and some modifications made by me, Cromwell will give you a battle that requires strategy... in realtime action!

- Weapon Level up System: Since Ragnarok is not an ordinary weapon(and also your only weapon in the game), it can grow up the way you want it to be! Thanks to GBP Productions' Dark Cloud Weapons,  you can fuse some materials that will control the stat growth of your weapon! And it now works with XAS. :)

- Skill Learning System: This uses Yanfly's JP System... Also works with XAS.

- Crafting: In Cromwell, you can craft items from enemy drops, treasures, or from quest rewards. Some crafted items offers bonus effects so keep on crafting!

- Quests: There will be 50+ available quests in the game, just in case you get tired on playing through the story. Quests also give special items that might be useful!

- Chain Command Sequence Events: Some events require fast keypress sequences to complete specific actions that might give you bonuses that will be useful in the game.

- Minigames: Disarming traps? Falcon shooting? Ship Navigation? These are some of fun minigames included in Cromwell. This gives also bonuses and special items that will be useful in your quest.

- Character interaction: Other characters won't be fully controllable. But in Cromwell, there are special events where the other characters will be available to be controlled, such as escaping on traps, falcon shooting, and getting the ship out from the storm minigames.

- CSS(Character Support System)

So what is this "CSS" feature?
CSS, or Character Support System enables the crew to help you without having to join your party. Since the game will "not" implement the squad based system, I decided to add this feature.
Basically, it functions as an Overdrive System...

But instead of level numbers, I have them as character support capacity.

 - So in Level 1, Seras will use her skill, Arrow Rain. It affects all enemies on the screen... Less damage, but has a chance to immobilize the targets.

 - In Level 2, Reon will give debuffs on enemies(which is pretty useful on boss fights).

 - And for the Level 3, Pamela will use her skill Pointblank Cannon. It's like she's gonna use the airship to target all enemies on screen. No debuffs, just damage. HEAVY DAMAGE.

Here's a screenshot:

(The Support Character's image is Seras', so it means you can activate her skill Arrow Rain)

I took the liberty of polishing up your story a bit...If you're interested, it just seemed a bit poorly written...no offense! >.>

Thanks! Well, the sprites are originally made by Kiyoto Kaduki, Saitou, and some RTP Sprites. They are just edited to suit the battle system and some events that happens in-game. :)

Interesting. The graphics look great and the intro reminds me of the Lufia games.

RMMV
Alright I've given the demo a full swing and let myself digest a majority of the elements.  Right now, with what we discussed about the poison tiles and key binding I'll omit since that has had fixes implemented.

I highly recommend Yanfly's name tag script for your project as the character's names are elaborate and difficult to remember.  Particularly between the magic user Reon and his counterpart the roguish black haired fellow.

The linear order of events that must happen before an event will work, despite allowing the player to explore for themselves is a bit confusing.  You provided a vital clue at the entrance of the structure, and acting on it and what was said about splitting up to cover more ground I found the correct solution to a puzzle one step ahead of where you intended me to use it.  The puzzle will not function unless you talk to the party first, and I feel I convinced you enjoy to reexamine this.

Ragnarok needs it's own introduction and that Clovis can communicate with it.  It's a sentient sword and seems to look out for Clovis's well being/bonded to him.  It should have some interaction between the party scenes or at least give Clovis some acknowledgement so the player knows it's there which is absent till the end of the demo. This is a very good element of the story you have made, and has a lot of potential, don't downplay the intelligent sword.

We need some clarification as to why the Magi Knights sacrificed this girl in particular or what happened 15 years ago here with Reon.  It all happened so fast that we barely got a chance to see why Reon was hurting or what he was a part of.  Also he mastered elemental magic and that bastard didn't cast one spell the entire demo.  Trap guy was more useful.

Clovis isn't a brooding swordsman, and that is wonderful.  He's actually a really likable fellow and contributes, even flirts with the captain.  He's genuine.  That was surprising.  Highwind was a little too easy to win over for a hardened captain, but I liked her and that she was tough as nails not to remain with her ship and actually go in and help the group.  This is another very good element of the story.  She's more an adventurous type than a too good to pitch in.

We haven't had any real explanation as to what binds a demon to a sacrifice or why a sacrifice is necessary, though that can be explored later on in the story.

Making us to Dance Dance Revolution with controls on a time limit is cruel.  I have a xbox controller and I couldn't keep up with your time limit.  I literally could not hit the buttons fast enough and I was getting them all correct.

I enjoyed the play through, but the boss fight has some safe spots you may wanna tag with floor damage at random intervals.

I'd also recommend adding more than one type of monster.  Spirits were too tough for level 1 creatures, they are ranged and magic users and cause knock back.  This can punt you into other rooms.  At least three different types would be nice.  At least one melee.

Update time guys!

So far, I have...

 - Revamped OP Cutscenes
 - Decreased Traps in Azrael Fortress(which makes it less frustrating)
 - Balanced the Characters and Enemy Stats... and skills as well
 - Added Quests and new Accessible Areas
 - Added the "CSS" feature

So what is this "CSS" feature?

CSS, or Character Support System enables the crew to help you without having to join your party. Since the game will "not" implement the squad based system, I decided to add this feature.

 - In Level 2, Reon will give debuffs on enemies(which is pretty useful on boss fights).

 - And for the Level 3, Pamela will use her skill Pointblank Cannon. It's like she's gonna use the airship to target all enemies on screen.(Inspired by Tseng's Airstrike on FFVII: Crisis Core) No debuffs, just damage.

Here's a screenshot:

(The Support Character's image is Seras', so it means you can activate her skill Arrow Rain)
Stay tuned for updates! A new Demo is likely to be released after GMD for the month of May.

Played a bit. Nice dialogues, plot and mapping. But there's something amiss with the combat. The attack motion is not fluid and timely enough for me to spam it in organised way.. :/

First dungeon is too hard... the ghosts hit like a truck, and I found myself burning through too many potions for my liking. Also, after I died twice, I ragequit because there was nowhere to save and I didn't feel like rewatching the intro a 3rd time. Add a save point near the first dungeon, please.

Also, I agree with the above post. The attack animation is a bit clunky.

Pixel movement/diagonal movement should be enabled. It is an ABS after all. The custom tileset was quite good.

Erm, for the save-point thing, there is a save point before you enter the Dungeon. It appears at the left part. It looks like a crystal.

The attack animation will be fixed in the next release. And for the Pixel Movement or diagonal movement... I think that won't do because of the limitations of the battle system.(it gives a weird behavior when it comes to projectiles)

Thanks for dropping by!

Thanks! Yeah, you could try this ! It might change your mind(hopefully) :)

You can also try the Zelda games... those games are one of my inspirations, and those are really worth playing.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
