Crossed Hearts is a turn-based RPG with a heavy emphasis on two major themes - teamwork, and love between women.

Story

In the world of Crossed Hearts, there is no such thing as men. Only women exist here, and their love blossoms freely, blessed by the goddess. This tale is about two of such women - Princess Cecilia and her loyal knight Saphira. At the beginning of this tale, it seems as though Saphira has already confessed her feelings to Cecilia, but she feels uncertain of herself. What is more important? Her feelings, or her duty as a knight? As it appears that the two of them may come to an understanding of each other's feelings, suddenly an invader appears - the dark witch Riel, who seems to hold some sort of obsessive interest in Cecilia, and whisks her away to her tower lair, leaving Saphira behind.

It is now up to Saphira to rescue her beloved princess... but what happens after that? This tale of a knight seeking to rescue her princess is only the beginning, and as the truth of Riel's actions begins to come to light, we may find that the fate of the world rests on the shoulders of these three women - or more accurately, it rests upon their crossed hearts.

Demo Features

- Combat system focused on teamwork between the two heroines, Saphira and Cecilia. Unite their abilities with powerful Affection Invoke skills to defeat enemies together!

- Demo contains 1 complete dungeon and the beginning of the second dungeon (to give you a better example of the teamwork abilities).

- Girls who like girls.

Credits are included in the readme. Make sure to read it, as it includes some information about known bugs.

It has some interesting concepts. I'll give it a try.

From your screenshots, I think the maps need to be polished.

This was posted on /u/ so I thought I'd copy and paste my reply from there to here:

The game has a good presentation, and I find the music to be pleasing. The combat is very quick, but there's not really much strategy so far. Maybe because it's a bit easy. The Affection Invoke skill is cute and I like how this will further lead to scenes between the two main characters where you can see their relationship develop.

To be honest I'm not buying the story that much, maybe because it's a bit weak from what is being presented right now. I like to see more character portraits that gives Saphira/other characters more emotions than what is seen in text but that's up to you guys if your artist(s) want to do that. Cut scenes images (not sure if that's correct term) would add a lot whether it be romantic, action, or tragedy scenes. This type of game might want to take itself a little less seriously too and I would love to see some humor akin to Embric of Wulfhammer.

Overall, there is good potential and I'd like to see this game do well in the future. Good luck!

I played through the Demo and I liked it quite a bit. Here are my thoughts on your project:

First off, I'm kind of conflicted about the cutscenes and story. The concept is pretty rare for what we usually see around here, but I'm always up for some of the purest form of love - I'm a yuri fan myself so the story and characters are a big plus for me. However, even though the first cutscenes were good and had some action, for the most part you just use plain dialogue with no pauses whatsoever, which really dampens the mood. I suggest you add Wait timers between some dialogues, and move the characters around more - maybe make use of balloon emotes, too. Another issue I took note of (and commented about in a reply in /u/) is that, since the game is so character-focused, you should really make an attempt to highlight that aspect, and learn to, at the very least, edit the base sprites for the romantic cutscenes. It might seem difficult, but I assure you it isn't that bad. There are a lot of spriting tutorials around, and little changes here and there could make a BIG difference in getting the point of your cutscenes across with much more intensity than a simple "*kiss*" text cue could ever aspire to do.

The mapping is quite solid, and I like that. I see you're making use of the DS+ resources, and you've done a really good job. Some maps feel a bit large, though, but it's not that big a deal since you can run by default (which is a good point and an issue present in many, many RM games).

The menus and overall interface is simple and straightforward, which is always a plus. You've been very smart with adding scripts so as not to overload the project, and it shows. The battle system itself is also pretty easy to grasp and the Affection Invoke system is a very nice touch. I'd like to add, though, that in tough battles such as bosses, losing a party member pretty much means certain death because you have to lose an extra turn reviving your partner (which, by the way, is a necessity for AI skills) and hope they won't get killed again by the incoming attack. I lost my 5 revives on the last boss of the Demo due to this... :headshake:

Other than these issues, this project is very solid. The concept is original and the gameplay is solid and far from frustrating in terms of difficulty. I hope I wasn't too scatterbrained with my post, as I kinda rushed it and it's almost 4 AM. :D

I'm looking forward to the next installment. Good luck with Crossed Hearts! ;)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
