RPG Maker Forums

Unfortunately the title of my game isn't called "Crying Out", instead it's called: V~e.

This isn't a work in progress game, I've stopped working on it since 2012. I do have a long playable demo
that I can link up to this later on, the reason that I haven't is because I've made updates to it since first uploading it into a cloud drive.
I stopped working on it because I didn't feel encouraged to continue completing it. That comes from focusing on higher priorities.
I would have loved completing it for people to play, but I didn't have people waiting for its release. So instead, I took the time to
iron out what has been made.

The reason why I'm bringing any attention to it now is that, I really want to make games and I've been working on a new title, but I recently felt that RPG Maker VX Ace, the engine I chose to use, has put me into restraints. I can't handle the patterns!!!! So I felt like, before I leave the RPG Maker scene, I should bid a farewell by at least trying again to present that game I made again to people.

I consider what I've made to be a mock up: I want to remake it, including way better graphics, original pieces (music and art), and to fully create everything. For example, for the mini-games that are in the game, I want to really show how fun I thought they would be. Again, for example, in one mini-game: You have to move a prick to a soft spot of a tree trunk (that representation is in the mock up). However, in my head, I imagined it being a retro look of a city, where you have to maneuver past dangerous alley ways, noticing the clues that direct your detective-looking character to a club. Yeah, I want this game to have one amazing identity crisis.

Story
When I came up with the "story", I told myself that I don't want it to be typical. I don't want it to have an overarching complex, something like a simple main boss to defeat. Instead I preferred a multiple story approach, where every character has their own complex and the world having its own complexes. With the world, I want to have it be intriguing, like as a player you would just want to explore. For example, whenever I present the player with a historical moment, instead of giving them a ton of stuff to read, I just launch them into the past (a moment like this is in the mock up).

Characters
Anderson Folde (Main)
Both of his parents are alive but separated. In the regular game, he lives with his father, who is a retired hunter, proclaimed to be one of the best warriors out there. Through Anderson's life, he's had to deal with people saying that he should become like his father, forcing his identity to not quite be his own. With that, his perception of the world is altered: seeing things differently than they are really. So he lives to explore.

There is seven supporting characters:

"The Tank" - His female best friend. She wants to become a knight.

"Mr. Pretentious" - A traveling knight gathering help to support his country defend their independence.

"Not a Magician" - A refined and reformed spell caster who chooses to not use his knowledge in the continuation of warfare and hurting people, but instead travels around healing people. In his course he has to combat his friend and former fellow student who uses spells for wickedness.

"Typical Suave Side Character" - Second born of a family of archers, however his preferred weapon is a Sabre. He enjoys an adventure, a wanderer, and in his trek he is curious to find his older brother to discover why he's gone absent.

"Ninja" - Upset over the murder of his fiance, he seeks out his brother, who has all fingers pointed towards him of being the culprit to confront him over the terrible act. Of course he would since his brother is apart of the bad spectrum of ninjas.

"WWF" - This amazing female Martial Artist has been rejected by her own people and just looks for a place to call home and people to call family. She basically has no one but herself upon meeting her.

"???" - This mysterious woman shows up from out of the air ;)  she has an attraction to Anderson, but I can't explain why. Not spoiling the reveal.

Gameplay
The game is difficult. I made the battles pretty tough. At first the enemies were easy to beat, but my friends complained that they were too easy to defeat. An example of the enemy difficulty is whenever you encounter mice in a tower: they don't deal much damage (basically taking out 1hp per attack), however, they're really fast, so before you can kill one, one might have been able to deal 5 hits on your character. So, to me, I made the monsters strong enough to the degree where it's like, you shouldn't be fighting them, but if you choose, they will defend themselves.  :guffaw:

The characters are very aware of their world, I tried to incorporate a realness to their dialogue. They are aware of their fantasy world, but focus on the details within it, like people cheating on each other, and so on.

Some skills are attained by leveling up, though you can buy new ones and even combine the ones you already have to create new ones. Weapons are the most expensive item to buy, for reasons. Other items are more affordable and attainable however.

There's a choice and morality system in the game. Quests are taken by just speaking with normal people, so there isn't a quest alert visual, again, I want to present a game of exploration.

Overall
I'm just really proud of what I've made. Sure, it's not aesthetically original since it has music from other games, but I love the writing and the things you do, like there's a mystery mission, where you have to solve the mystery of what happened to a missing farmer's son.

Actually, I would appreciate seeing what people have to say.

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
