So my game is going to have very simple graphics, as in no detailed shading and very simplistic graphics in general. However, I still want to be able to just draw with one tile, and it automatically filling in a space with another tile, based on the position in the world space. Just like water tiles and grass tiles have multiple variants in a separate graphic, and the editor automatically uses them all according to where the other ones are.

So how would I make that happen with custom tiles, on a fully custom tileset? Would I have to get a script, or is there an in-editor way of making that happen? I've looked around the Tilesets tab in the database, but I don't know what I'm looking for.

You just create them as an autotile, but in a more simple style than that used in the editor. Check out Final Boss Blues to see how some very simplified designs work.

Those are called autotiles and you need to draw them in a special format. You can open an A2 sheet in your drawing program to see how they look. Additionally you can google for a blog article called "Anatomy of an Autotile" to see better how they work (I'm on my phone or I'd link it.)

I'm going to move this to Resource Support for you.

If you've got the format correct that's all you need. If you put artwork into an water tile space the program will treat it like a water tile. If you put it in a spot for a wall tile the program will treat it like a wall. This is both useful and annoying. You can put animated grass in the water tile spot, for example, and it will animate and autotile. But if you don't want to use the autotiles or if you want a transparent wall autotile a layer above the ground tiles it doesn't work all that well.

I found it useful to play around with dummy tiles and read the help file section on resource standards. The text didn't start making sense until I played around with it, but all the info you need to make it work is there. You can also post questions about getting things to work here whenever you don't get something or want to figure out a way to make an element of artwork work in the editor.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
