Hi!

I've been coming to this forum now and then a lot, but now I need help with something no one else has needed help with.

My custom music isn't working correctly. At all. It used to start playing after around 10 seconds, but now it's not even starting. It's impossible!

Here's what I do:

1. I have my music as .MP3 files.

2. I go into VLC and convert my music into .ogg files.

3. I import the files into the BGM folder in Rpg Maker MV.

4. I test them by playing them in my media player just to make sure everything went ok.

5. I go into Rpg Maker MV and load my debug room, where I place an event for that specific music to play...

...and nothing. I've been sitting here browsing plugins for the past hour and a half and the music STILL hasn't started playing.

Can anyone help me?

1) which codec are you using when converting into ogg? you cannot use any codec, it needs to be one known by the engine

2) what is the filename of your music file? MV requires all filenames to conform to networking rules, if there are spaces or non-latin letters in the filename it will not load

if those tips don't help, can you attach one example for others to check?

I've moved this thread to Resource Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

I just tried to do this same conversion (which I always do when I get a .mp3 that I want to use in RPG Maker) and it works fine for me

1) Opened VLC

2) Clicked Convert/Save

3) Chose the .mp3 file

4) Hit convert/save

5) Chosen Audio - OGG as file type for conversion

6) Converted it

7) Added to RPG Maker MV's BGM folder

8) Went to test map, set the file as the autoplay BGM of the map

9) Tested if it runs on the sound manager first, OK it plays

10) Hit play button, test map opened, BGM is playing fine

Try it if works on Sound Manager of MV and on the map if used as autoplay BGM. If those work, then your event is the problem. If they don't then the file has the problem.. That or you actually set your BGM to play at 0 volume, or your volume settings for BGM was set to 0 or your computer has 0 volume

Sorry about that. I'm new!  :guffaw:

Anyways, I have a solution but I will answer your questions anyways.

1. I use VLC to convert my music. I'm not sure what a codec is or which one I have, and I don't know which are recognized by the engine.

2. The music I was trying to load was simply titled "Quest64.ogg". It was the battle theme of Quest 64 which I had downloaded off of the internet.

I just tried to do this same conversion (which I always do when I get a .mp3 that I want to use in RPG Maker) and it works fine for me

Yes! That's what I did---exactly, in fact. In my debug room I have two levers--one that plays a regular default battle theme, and another that plays my bgm.

The only thing that is working for me is downloading files that are strictly .ogg files off of the internet and not converting them. The music of Mother 3 (http://starmen.net/mother3/music/) can be downloaded here. It works for me.

Long story short, for me at least---downloading music is my best bet. Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure what a codec is or which one I have, and I don't know which are recognized by the engine.
Codec stands short for coder-decoder and is basically the compression formula used for audio (or video) compression.

And the player needs to know how the original data was compressed to know how to uncompress it - think of it as a mathematical key to get the data back.

In the search for better compression rates (to reduce download time) people are tweaking and improving those formula - that is why you sometimes have to update your player programs to be able to hear (or view) the newest audio/video files.

But fixed programs like the RM engine aren't updated like that and as a result they have problems with the newest compression formulae (or some of the more exotic settings in the compression programs.

From what you describe, your version and settings of the VLC program are in such a way, and you basically need to set them to an older and more standard (but also lower effect) compression formula

What version of VLC are you using? I have the latest one as of  the test that I've done. Also, have you tried to convert other files and see if they worked?

Yep! I've converted .m4a and they still didn't work for me

Thank you, man! I'll check to see if this works.
