So, to jump right in, I made this page due to a previous topic I had started on the official RPG Maker Forums. It was the feedback gained within both that thread and private messages that prompted me to launch this…  To give a brief idea of that topic, it was regarding a potential kick-starter campaign for ‘mini-game packs’ for RPG Maker. Anyway, the most popular ‘mini-game’ idea from the ones described in that topic was my for a Highly Customizable Trading Card Game.

First of all, just to ensure you understand exactly what this topic is discussing;

1 - A Fully Customizable Trading Card Game system, containing numerous scripts and resources (visual and audio) for use in RPG Maker Vx Ace (possibly with older/future maker support)
2 - A Fun, Family Friendly, Trading Card Game featuring all the ‘big names’ from the RPG Maker Series. This includes fan favorites such as Eric, Ralph, Slime and of course, the main player – Dekita.  This would be available as a FREE GAME to everyone; however, an unencrypted version of the game will  also be supplied with the TCG Script & Resources Pack.

This system can be used solely as a mini-game within a project, but it is also retains enough features to be used as the sole focus of a game. The features of this system would include such things as;

This system can be used solely as a mini-game within a project, but it is also retains enough features to be used as the sole focus of a game. The features of this system would include such things as;
Animated Cards :  (cards && card images move)
Various Card Types : (creature, equip, spells, field mods, enhance, more)
Card Rarity / Grade : (common, uncommon, rare, ultra rare, more)
Various Card Packs : (numerous cards packs offering various types of cards)
Card Condition : (card deteriorates over time is mistreated)
Optimized ‘card creation’ System : (numerous methods to ensure performance and quality is kept)
Card && Deck Inventories : (dedicated scenes for viewing obtained cards and decks)
Multiple Card Decks : (player can hold more than one deck at a time)
Card Shop : (buy/sell cards, packs, items and general merchandise)
Card Trade : (trade cards between NPC’s and save files)
Card Auction : (buy/sell cards/packs/item at an ‘auction house’)
Card Craft : (dedicated scene for crafting new cards)
Card Enhance : (use unwanted cards to enhance your favorite cards)
Card Dueling : (have in game card battles with rules changing each match)
Dueling Tournaments : (multiple possible tournaments to participate in)
TCG Player : (dedicated classes for storing data related to player activities etc..)

Obviously, all aspects of the script system will be as customizable as possible. All cards, environments, scenes (window position, layout, etc..), player information and settings would all be fully customizable by the developer via simple (and fully documented) script customization sections. This means you can easily make each scene look fully unique to your project. You retain full control over all images & information shown as well as how each scene flows. Additionally, most of (if not all) the features would be optional, so things like ‘card condition’ does not have to be included in your own in-game CCG/TCG.

Mahō no kādo is the name that will be given to the small (2-4 hour story) game that will be made alongside the Trading Card Game Scripts & Resource Pack. This game will come in two forms, encrypted and unencrypted. The unencrypted version will be supplied with the resource pack as a means of providing the user (of the resources) an adequate documentation with physical examples on how to set things up.

The encrypted version, will be freely distributed as a means of providing people with a product to play and thus, see the system in action. The game story is highly subject to change as any kickstarter reward tiers will likely be for backers to design features or even be featured themselves within the game.

As it currently stands, the main story will revolve around a young student named Dekita. The main goal of this game will be somewhat cliche (Become the best card battler in school whilst obtaining as many cards as possible). As well as featuring all aspects of the TCG detailed above, there will also be frequent appearances from popular names from the RPG Maker program itself. This includes fan favorites such as Ralph, Ulrika, Oscar, Eric, Rick and of course, the all important Slime!

During school your character will pass time via participating in various card duels (card battles) and once you become good enough, tournaments. Other means of passing time include things such as Shopping, Trading cards and of course, meeting fun, quirky and sometimes outrageous characters.

Alternatively, you could always attend classes and actually learn a thing or two about card dueling. There are many secrets to be found that can only be learned via completing the hardest of tests. Sometimes these tests will be of the mind, sometimes they will be more practical and will involve the protagonist battling their way to victory.

Great, but do you love the idea enough to consider paying to use the system in your own game? or even enough to donate towards the systems initial creation?

I'd love that. And I think I'd donate too, would not be the first time :)

Great ideas and hard work always need some help!

@Seraph6 - They do indeed need some help, especially when it comes to graphical components.

Is there any features you especially liked? Anything you think should be included that I havent mentioned?

I like the idea of "multiples rule set", more if customisable.

Gives the idea to be a system full of potential!

I like the idea of more features, as I always feel more features = more options for designers. That being said I know it would help in my current game, as I do have some card collecting/trading going on.

@Seraph6 - There would be a vast choice of possible rules, also, each rule could be changed via a script call - so having a battle with one ruleset can immediately be followed by a battle with another set of rules. :)

@gillisp - I have just updated the OP to include some of the features I had initially forgotten to mention such as; animated card images and battle tournaments :p

I would love this. It'd fit in so well with the card game project I'm doing right now. If this happens, I no longer have to rely on a complex system like Unity or Unreal, and can make this with the benefit of RPG Maker covering my back.

@Nio && Hirei - thanks for the interest guys. If there is any questions you have regarding system features or functions, feel free to ask :)

@Arin - Yea, I also dislike the idea of having to learn a new engine just to create a cool little game. Fortunately, I can script. Unfortunately, scripting isnt enough to create the overall 'end product' in my head. (gotta obtain the graphics and sounds and such). It amused me that you where so willing to provide me your credit card details ;)

@Everyone - The 'end product' would also come complete with a short game project (unencrypted, so you can easily see how things are done). This is also something that non-rpg maker users that wish to donate could benefit from - ie, they are given donation rewards relating to the short game (such as being a character/card/boss within the game) - this game (an encrypted version) would be available to everyone to download. The unencrypted version would be supplied within the 'TCG Script/Resource Pack' (if thats what it was called in the end ;) )

Considering I have been wanting to make RPG Maker game based around combating via "card battles" similar to Yu-Gi-Oh! etc, of course I would too help to fund the project.

@Clord - Thanks for the comment.

With this system, you would easily be able to create card games similar to Yu-Gi-Oh!. The default project would showcase exactly how to setup the settings in order to create a Yu-Gi-Oh! type ruleset (along with other ruleset examples).

In order for this idea to be properly put into motion, it will require a fair amount of funding. In all honesty, I am not sure the potential market of vx ace users will be sufficient in order to; however, the more vx ace users that are aware of this, the more people that would potentially consider contributing to ensure it becomes a reality within their own game.

If you guys have any ideas on things that could be included within a kickstarter for this - that would benefit both vx ace users AND non rpg maker users, please let me know your thoughts. This is really something I would like to do so I would like to ensure that any campaign made had as much appeal as possible for potential backers :)

Personally, I really like this idea. Upon reading through what you outlined, I instantly thought that I could certainly use such a system in Aleph perhaps, depending upon how long until it would be released :)  With a high level of customization, this could be a really great system for people to play with.

Edit: Also, I would support this via Kickstarter

Out of curiosity, how much would you need? I'm assuming that the real expenses are not going towards actually writing the script right? Unless you are planning to pay your bills by doing it.

- Animated Battle Fields :

^- Battlefields can move in various ways
Basically I'll feel like

When I summon

- Animated Battle Environment :

  ^- Weather effects etc
But then I'll be all

Because i decided to play in the rain.

This is a fantastic idea, and will be backing this when I get the chance.

@Jesse - Thanks for the comment dude. Pleased to hear you would also consider backing such a project.

With regards to an ETA on the system, probably looking at a few months (4-6) in order to ensure everything was fully functioning as intended and iron out any bugs etc before release. :)

@Clord - I am not sure on an exact price yet; however, it would probably be similar to other RPG Maker Game Kickstarters that have ran in the past. (ie, a few thousand £)

To be realistic, images would have to be obtained for alot of things, such as menus and backgrounds, cards / card protective coverings, actually, pretty much everything would be imaged based in some way. Also - I would have to account for the fact that I would not be able to perform may commissions during the time I was writing this system.

This is why I want to make the 'overall' product as appealing as possible.

I am thinking of offering tier rewards such as 'A copy of Vx Ace and the scripts' and 'Design a card/enemy/environment/etc..' in the hopes this will appeal to people who dont currently use RPG Maker.

Obviously, the small game that will be included with the system (the one to showcase each feature) will be released publicly as a means of both promoting what the system can do AND as a small playable game with a few hours of gameplay and obviously, being a TCG, it has high re-playability.
^These are just afew of the things I am thinking in order to appeal to both RPG Maker users && Regular Gaming Enthusiasts :D

@Goldstorm - Yea, that is the plan.
I want people who use the system to feel like this

I want people who play the system to feel like this:

And hopefully, I will be like this:

:D

or you can also combine this system with a SRPG like the Prince of persia on the ds

I also Recommend to support dekita

dekita is a fastly and awesome script maker is work are always clean

they have only some minor bugs in is scripts

he have already 120 script in is portfolio and release for the public

is script structure allow easy editing and permit to make a awesome game with it

I can't saddly support you for the moment but I will apreciate to test your system! (i am minor ._. )

so support dekita he is pretty damn' professionnal and he work hard for make new systems for rpg maker

@Nio - Thanks for the positive comments dude :)

Im not sure about the exact game you reference but yes, this game would be fully functional separate from the main game. This means you could make each element of the system interact with your game in your preferred way. It also ensures that it would not have compatibility issues caused from other scripts you may be using.

There would be a seperate menu containing all the scenes etc related to this system (and you could call that scene from the regular vx ace menu if you wish) so yea, it would essentially be able to create an infinite amount of possible card battle systems. - This is a great feature for any user who wishes to implement it as it ensures their game is as unique/ fan based as they want it to be. :)
