There is no real easy way to do this.

But one solution is this.

You will have to create a seperate skill, that targets the user. Do not have it do anything but apply the increased defense or whatever state you want. Do not add an animation to this skill.

Then you have to create a common event. And go to Page 3 and select force action.

Select the skill you just created and the ally you want it to be applied to.

Then go back to the skill that does minor damage and over in the right side implement the common event you just created.

*Note that you can only add it to a specific actor. If you want to have multiple party members have this ability you will have to create multiple common events and skills.

However if you look around I am sure there is a script that you could use that would simplify this.

You make the attack deal minor damage. Okey?

Then Go to Effects and double click the blank space in it.

Effects windows pops up.

Select the Param tab.

Select Add buff.

That was it.

If you want, you can also see an alternative tutorial I made for VX Ace. It takes only 2 hours for well... almost everything.

Press the spoiler to get it. ;)

There is in fact a very easy waay to do this and that's by using the damage formula. I'm not on my computer so can't do this exactly, but iirc it goes like this.

At the beginning of the formula put

a,add_buff (buff id no);

Again iirc the buff number for defence is 2.

Just seen a typo.

It's a followed by a period, not a comma.

He wants the buff for the caster, not the target... which is it would be done via the damage formula as ksjp wrote down

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
