Story:

The Darkness started in the capital. Nobody knows what first caused it but they quickly learned how it spread. The Darkness infects those who come to close to one of The Corrupted, people who have been fully taken over by The Darkness. It also is transmitted to anyone who kills something infected with The Darkness. Once infected it influences a persons actions. It starts off slowly, small actions that a person might do if they are having a bad day such as get in a fight over the unfair prices of a vendor. Evil actions grow the Darkness within giving it greater control over its hosts thoughts and actions. Eventually actions that would repulse the person have become common nature. You don't argue with the merchant, you kill him outright and take his wares because you can.

With Darkness comes strength however and the ability to fight back against the Corrupted and those who follow them. This is the real reason why Darkness is so dangerous. It is tempting to give in just a little to gain the strength always convincing yourself that you can stop when you have enough power. Power is addictive though and by the time you try to stop it is too late, the Darkness has taken too much of a hold on you.

In the past few years the Darkness quickly spread from the capital where it started and has consumed most of the countryside and towns. Once peaceful villagers are now crazed murderers and animals have been warped into monsters. Dark Fantasy is the story of a traveler who is attacked while trying to flee to one of the last good towns left. In self defense he kills a bandit by accident and becomes tainted by the Darkness. Now containing some of The Darkness himself he makes it to town to find he is now an outcast. Rather than give up all hope however, he finds a wise old man that has an interesting idea, if he can keep the darkness in check for a while the main character might just be able to keep the village safe for at least a little longer.

Mechanics:

The Darkness is heavily tied to Dark Fantasy's experience points. Lets be honest, most actions that gain you experience points in modern RPGs are things that society also happens to consider bad. Gain to much Darkness(XP) and you will get an automatic alternate game over where your character became corrupted by the influence of the Darkness and turned himself into an evil overlord. This mechanic is meant to make people think twice before they would do actions that they would normally run toward in a RPG. Is it really important that I fight this enemy? I could use some extra money but is it worth it to steal it? If the character gets up to certain levels shop keepers will no longer talk to him because they feel he can no longer be trusted. This and other penalties act as a form of auto balance against grinding xp. The game will not have random encounters and a degree of stealth elements so that players can avoid almost all fights with a bit of work and luck.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
