All right, let me make my update too! Now trying to implement the semi-animated cut-scenes with hand-drawn comic style images. So far they works well!
Of course, it's not really obvious here, but take a look at in-game screenshot of those cut-scenes.

Your typical everyday soldiers in RPGs.

^ This cut-scene will follow if you choose Griselda as MC.

^Or this, if your MC is Xia.
Please, feel free to give us your thoughts :)

Probably around the mid week of March... I hope :D . Story-wise, the game is completed and playable from the start to the end. But we have yet to complete the battles, side-quests, special cut-scenes... etc.

Soon as we finished polishing the project to beta state, we will release the demo. Please take a look at current progress :)

Current Project Progress :Mapping : 100%

Events : 75%

Story : 100%

Side Quest : 0%

Special Cut-scenes : 10%

Battle-System : 30%

Database : 50%
Thanks for your support Dalph! Appreciated !

**Update time!**

With dungeon-crawling being the majority of the gameplay in DarkEnd, the maps need to be stunning and atmospheric. So, here's a video we made, showcasing the beautifully done maps, which are randomised and filled with rare loots, unique enemies and hidden secrets each time you play :D

Please check it out:

You put so much work into illustrative artwork for your characters and cut scenes, I was a little disappointed when I saw that your maps were so tile-set heavy. I understand if you are just one person and don't have time to do both, but if that's the case you should consider recruiting someone. Your game would benefit. Looks great so far, your characters are very charming.

I am glad you love the artworks and cutscenes. My artist;s hard works paid off, thanks :) . Umm... about maps, it's true that we have neither man power nor munnies nor even time to invest in beautiful parallax mappings at this time, but now that you suggested, I am seriously considering it and will probably do it if we have enough budget :) .

I think it is always a better idea to delay release, to have a more complete project, then to release a project you aren't 100% happy with. Your fans may grumble at first, but they will forgive you when they have their hands on the gold you've made for them.

Beautiful maps don't need parallaxing at all, just some decent tilesets, a lot of varity and detail.

It's not that your maps look that bad, just some of them are pretty bland as of now, lots of room for improvement.

As with anything, trial and error, keep up the work, and I'm sure you'll come up with some pretty nice maps.

I would agree with this. You definitely don't have to parallax, good mapping can come in a variety of forms. But I think we have faith that you can do better ;)

Hmm, time to improve the maps then! :D

We kinda cut some corners with dungeon maps though, due to the game design about having a random dungeon. So it all become mixed bag, some good some bad, some repetitive in the style. But will polish them anyway :)

Personally I don't use Parallax because it requires too much time and work, but I like to rearrange the tilesets to give more details here and there, it's a pretty good idea I think.

Even RTP tiles can shine when in proper hands, I have faith in you guys.

Now that Celianna has made her awesome tileset available also for ACE, you can make your maps even more beautiful with it! Best luck guys, I'll follow this topic.

I think this project looks really good. Obviously you guys have put effort into making it shine. I feel that mapping is always the first thing people criticize and the first thing I forget when I'm playing someone's game (unless it lacks basic production skill like making walls/ceilings look right etc). I have a question: you say the dungeons are randomized, do you just me the loot and the encounters or the layout as well?

Thanks but ummm... I don't think I can use her tilesets for commercial project, no?

All of them, the loots, the encounters and the layouts too. It's like Diablo III's random maps in a sense. Most map retain the basic layout but there will be changes here and there. And the side-quest will be random too. It's quite impossible to get everything in single play-through. A player needs to replay the game for like 2-3 times to get 100% completion :)

Oh damn...I forgot it was commercial...sorry about that. XD
It's okay. We are tying to make custom tile-set ourselves. I hope we could implement that in the coming demo :) . Thanks for your support Dalph ^__^ b

** Update **

Here's our custom title screen for DarkEnd :) It'll be semi-animated to create a mystical effect:

We've also taken new screenshots showing more of our dungeon maps! We will polish them even more soon :)

That's not all. We're also thinking of creating custom-animated skill attacks, but for now, we made custom skill icons for our characters (^__^)~ Here are some samples:

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
