i've looked at some scripts sort-of like this but none do quite what i want. So you know when an ally dies in battle, well after the battle you return to the map, and if you have player folowers on, there they are. If you go to the menu a see there status it will tell you that they are dead. But thay still look alive on the map. Could sombody please make a script that when a player dies they switch to a "damaged" graphic, and stsy at the same spot on the map where they fell, and they are removed from your party. The only way to get them back is to select them on the map then use items or magic to heal th em, then they rejoin your party. I am not using any custom sprites for my fighting heroes so if you could make a script that links certain sprites to their damged equivelent. Thank you if you can do this, I don't know if it is possible or not.

So you mean like Dragon Quest IX, where, when a PC dies in battle, they become a Coffin which your party drags with you (rather grisly when you think about it)?

Assuming it works for Actors (I've never tried this), I think all you need to do is use the Change Graphic method for each Actor, and change them to the Coffin when they die, and change them back to their normal image when they are revived.

Personally, I'd rather change the Opacity of the Actor, to imply said Actor is now a ghost...

Not quite. I want the person to become damged, like the damaged sprite sheets in the rtp. And they wouldn't folow the party they would stay on the space where they died on the map. Also i don't like ghosts and i have never played Dragon Quest IX

So would they be removed from the party when they died?   It almost sounds like you want the Actor to be removed, and at the same time create a new Game Event which has the damaged sprite image, and put it in the proper location.

If there is only 1 World Map, I would create an Event for each Actor, and make them invisible by default.  When a PC dies, remove said Actor from the party and move the corresponding Event into the right location.  Then flip a switch to make the Event appear.

Of course, if multiple PCs die at the same location, you'd need to keep track of several dead PCs at the same location, somehow.  I don't think more than 1 Event can be in a single location at a time.

If there is some in-game way to revive the player, just add the Actor back into the party and turn off that Event's switch, making the corresponding "dead PC" event invisible.

All you have to do is look for the Death state on your Actors.  So I don't think you'd need a script, per se.  Maybe a Common Event which handled this.

it would just be easier in a script. though i might try the coffin that follows you around idea.

If i did decide to have a coffin follow me around, how would i do this. How could i make an event that changes a player graphic triggered when they die, then undo it when they come back to life.

If you decided to do the coffin route, I know an Event can do a Change Graphic call.

I haven't checked, but I think you can change an Actor's graphic as well, if, say, the PC grew up.

To do it, I would create a Common Event which checked for the Death state on each PC.  If the Actor was in the Death state, set its graphic to a coffin.  Otherwise, set its graphic to the normal one for the character.

You can then call the Common Event after each turn in the Troops tab.  And you can then call the same Common Event after performing a "revive the dead" type action.

Or, you can make the Common Event a Parallel process.  The event would then store the "last known death state" for the Actor, and only do something if the Actor's Death state has changed.  I'd do the former, because Parallel processes can cause lag and the Death state doesn't change too often.

ok thanks i guess i didn't need a script after all. mods please don't close this post until i edit my post after i tryed this.

EDIT: I tried this and it works sometimes. When someone dies then I escape it works, but when someone dies in the same turn I win the battle it won't work. can someone help me with this, or should I start a new topic.

Someone asked the same thing on another forum and I did this example for him. Check out the demo, fight the chimera on the map, let the girl dies then walk around a bit and talk to the npc that will ressurect her.

Check the Common Events tab to see how it was done :)

Well this was only a quick example, but if you look at the Common Events tab, you'll see the conditional branches to change the actor graphic if he is dead. You can change what happens if the main character dies, like removing then re-adding him, or giving the player a game over screen, or maybe simply removing the death state letting him with 1 hp or something like that.
