I knew I forgot something. I guess it's OK, though. There's still almost two thirds of December left, right? If I can avoid the siren call of Final Fantasy XV waiting for me on the PS4...

At least there's still plenty of progress to read about here.

Hmmm I am a few days late for replies, but well, let's try anyways.

@Azurecyan : Good luck for your goals. Your map makes me think of the initial continent on Earth, slightly fragmented with the continents starting to drift away.

@EliteZeon : Good to know how you did the map. One day, I'll have to look at what brushes are used for ^^

@Arithmetician : Nice progress as usual. Too many posts to detail more ^^

@Zeriab : Good work for the mouse ! You can now improve it even more for mouses with more buttons if you don't know what to do ;)

@Chiara : It has been a while since I've seen your drawings. They are still very nice to see, I like how you manage to create different faces.

@Marquise* : It's good to have your fingerprints back. I like how Daughter Cat just blocks your hand, begin like : "it's enough, human."

@Doktor_Q : Progress is progress, no matter what it is.

@bgillisp : Well done being back up ! There could be a super rat somewhere who could damage 9999 though ;)

@ksjp17 : Schlangan can use diplomacy if necessary, he's still the general of a whole alliance of galactic empires, and commander of eight planets :)

@Aweed : Try to draw your map, you'll be able to put things together little by little.

@AceOfAces_Mod : Congrats for your script :)

@Dreadshadow : You secret goal has to be interesting, or we'll punish you ;)

@VideoWizard : It has been a while, indeed. If you really want to avoid Final Fantasy, just break your PlayStation, or stop sleeping and finish the game :D

My update :

I'll start by reminding my goals for this month:
- Finish mission XVII. -> DONE
- Add a new explorable area in the Death Realm. -> DONE
- Start working on mission XVIII if possible.

Two goals out of three are completed ! Mission XVII is over, as well as the new area in  the Death Realm. Hence, I released v2.15 of my game, for those who want to try it. Concerning mission XVII I however had to skip the minigame part as the sudden changes in mechanics would pose some problems. Instead we have the opportunity of fighting robots that respawn in the middle combat with other robots that do the same :D . Of course, the fight ends after a while.

The new area in the Death Realm is a dead forest, where we fight ghost wolves, but I'd recommend the player to go there with the four soldiers being level 60+. I'll create new skills for level 70+ later on.

Now, I'll be working a bit on mission XVIII, which will happen in the main city again. Now, the map of the city will change a bit, as the inhabitants have filled the giant hole made by Schlangan with water from the river nearby. Many things will happen in this mission, so I don't think I'll be done by the end of the month, but who knows :)

Just a super quick update: I tried to do some more stuff like preparing reference materials for character design, but then got sidetracked by unpacking the final box (which turned out to not be the final box, now I have to find the final final box and feel like my life's become a JRPG), paperwork, catching up on all the missed out internet time, old characters and, well, reworking some old concepts and doing a bit of writing counts as practice, right? I'll try to get back to my project this week but there's still so many distractions! So many, in fact, that I almost forgot to click "Submit Reply". Oops.

Yay for everyone's progress and thanks to those who commented on the sketches. <3

@Dreadshadowyou sure in 2 weeks?  Hope at least in mid January or something... o_O

Marquise the plan is just in January. Meaning that it might be late January but NOT February. I think I will manage the most of its parts, since I am now more experienced to it.

The only reason to delay it, will be polishing, enhancing and expanding. The core stuff MUST be ready till the ned of January.

And if I will decide to make it bigger, in the end of January I will reveal the work so far with a fun way. :p

@Dreadshadow : You secret goal has to be interesting, or we'll punish you ;)

I think I must tell you that "interesting" is a word that varies from a person to another, but yes, that is the point. I want it to be interesting for all of you and not just a few. :)

So instead of doing any real work on my initial project, I converted a sudden burst of inspiration into a bunch of JavaScript snippets and made a little tech demo of a battle system based around a row system with one enemy per row, and enemies that don't move every round, with a visible countdown to their next action (and of course, abilities that can manipulate it).

And last night, I had a Mother-3-induced epiphany for doing small character sprites: odd-numbered widths are almost always better, even if they can't sit neatly in the center of the frame.

@Arithmetician: Congrats on all the success with your jobs so far!

@Marquise*: Eh, it comes and goes in waves. Sometimes I'll have high energy for a few hours, and sometimes all I want to do is sleep for a few hours.

@VideoWizard: Easy solution to that is to donate your ps4 to my trust fund. As in, trust me, I'll put it to good use :)

@Schlangan: Maybe. I still haven't set up all my ultimate challenge monsters yet.

@Chiara: Ah, the real life tetris game of unpacking boxes. I'm actually amazed someone hasn't made a game of that yet.

@Doktor_Q: Just be careful to not get sidetracked too much.

12.12 Update: Went ahead and did some little fixes to the overland map, and fixed up some dialogues from late Chapter 1/early Chapter 2 that had been on the to-do list. Now they should flow better (hopefully).

@bgillisp Thanks.

Spent some time trying to brainstorm a revised plot rather than implementing the last two jobs today and thought about how to order job acquisition.  New ideas have yet to come into focus.

I think maybe a good starting point would be revamping the world map, making it sequentially as I figure out the plot, and in turn generating ideas for it.

@Chiara : Maybe you should rest is start forgetting pressing buttons :p

@Dreadshadow : We'll see, then.

@Doktor_Q : Be careful. If you start doing many things at once, you might lose track of your current project.

@bgillisp : Good. And congrats on your 5k posts.

My update :

Nothing much, I simply prepared a new version of the map of the city Nathrax. Enough time has passed for the inhabitants to have fixed every holes/pits created by the Yosha cult and Schlangan. So, here are the three versions of the left part of the city, depending on which mission we're at.

Two buildings got destroyed, then a square has been created to replace the top building. Fot the huge pit created by Schlangan, the only choice was to fill it with water from the close-by river, hence extending the park. For a few minor details, the streets were realigned, and the path in the park slightly modified.

@Dreadshadow: Haha, you're making it already interesting by speaking in vague terms about it. : D Looking forward to the big reveal.

@bgillisp: If only real life Tetris would mean the empty boxes disappear once I'm done with them so I don't have to climb to the attic. Yay for finished things from the to do list!

@Arithmetician: Sounds like a plan. : D Do you already know the ending for the plot? If you do, and haven't done the following already, trying to go backwards with the plot (start with the ending and figure out how things got there) maybe.

@Schlangan: Haha, nothing like destruction by very powerful people to get the city new parks. I wonder if the inhabitants have petitioned the government for years to get a bigger park. Also, I'm curious, how do you pronounce Schlangan? My first language being German, it's been "Shlangan" in my head all the time, and now I started to wonder how correct that is. xD

Progress, 12th:

  • opened the project in MV and played through the intro (there's so many small things I'll need to tackle later D: )
  • finally added in a Conditional Branch to make sure there's no loot during the intro
  • updated the names of some items and typed in the states I added while I'd been figuring out the remaining skills last month (my favourite is probably "Splinter!" which has a chance to either go away, cause Bleeding, or stay for another turn. Need to make a list with states I need to implement via troop events. And then figure out how to implement them. I always mess up the timing, though)
  • thought of all the things I need figured out soon and realized that I really need to plan and sketch the first area so I can at least make greybox level-equivalents in which to test and implement everything, which also means that I need at least a rough idea of the culture that created that place and the Vendor characters I procrastinated on designing

@Chiara : I created Schlangan as a Pokemon, and it was derived from a snake. So his name actually come from German, Die Schlange :D . And the "an" is like the "an" in Banane. The pronunciation is henceforth : \ʃlaŋan\

@Chiara  The original ending idea felt too derivative of Final Fantasy V / Dimensions, so no, I have a clear idea for the beginning but not how it should really end.

Any word about it will be veeeeery welcome.

@Schlangan Thanks! I love those maps! Really cool how it changes depending where you are in the story.

Progress Report:

Nothing much. Worked a tiny bit on the story, and some of the map. I added color and depth to the mountains. I haven't drawn towns, dungeons, or any other geological features on it yet.
