Greetings,

I am only two days in to using RPG Maker VX Ace (and this is a first time with RPG Maker) so I am very new to all this.  I am attempting to follow Touchfuzzy's tutorials.  In Making Your Own Game Tutorial VI:Creating Encounters Part 1, page 5, I came across a default "Minimum Total Experience to Level" graphic which I cannot find within the application -- I went to Database --> Classes and clicked the three dots but I have a table with 99 levels and corresponding experience numerical progression -- but no graphic.

  • Where can I find the default red  "Minimum Total Experience to Level" graphic as illustrated in Touchfuzzy's tutorial?

  • Once found, how do I adjust the graphic to limit it to 8 levels?
  • I created a class "Swordsman" but cannot seem to limit class to Level 8 (I can limit actor to Level 8, but there does not seem a way to call up any corresponding experience graphic.
  • As mentioned, I am new and do not want to get into any scripting functions -- it appears though there is a way to adjust, without scripting, the experience curve (wherever that is?) and limit the levels.
Thank you in advance to anyone out there who can assist with these questions!.

Cheers!

(please see attachment of graphic I cannot yet find or generate in RPG Maker VX Ace)

EXP curves are attached to Classes, not actors, so you can tweak them in the Class tab for each class, making one need more or less exp then others.

However, you can always script curves as well, if you don't like the way the default curves run. I wrote a custom curve myself to run more like you see levels in the games like D&D. You can also write a flat curve as well. X exp needed for every next level

I think that is a graphic made by Touchfuzzy to illustrate his point, so you won't find it exactly like that in the data base.

The nearest thing is the set of curves you can see for each class.

You can set the maximum level to 8 on the actor page of the data base where it gives 2 boxes, one for initial level (so you can start the actor on any level you like) and one for maximum level (so you can cap each individual actor at whatever level you like).

yeah, I do believe that was just a graphic that was used to illustrate the point...

Implementing individual class max/initial level limits requires scripting. (By default you can only set actor max/initial levels)

Also just a heads up, each class having their own EXP tables by default means that if you change between classes, they will revert back to lv1, or whatever level they were with that specific class if it was leveled up previously. That level also refers to the classes' specific stat parameter tables.

For example if I turned an Actor from a lv10 Warrior with high stats into a Mage that was never leveled before, the actor as a mage will become lv1 with very low stats (assuming similar parameter curves)  There are several alternative evented/scripted ways to change it if it is not liked. (or doesn't suit the style of game you're making)

Thank you all for your answers and information, very helpful!  I see now it was just a graph visualization of what the experience tier.

I look forward to using/modifying (perhaps one day even developing) scripts, but since I am two days into the program I am looking to understand the basic and default aspects of its features.  Also, since I only have a smidgen of experience in scripting (slightly more advanced than "Hello, world!") I need to -- and intend to -- bolster my knowledge of that as well.

Take care all and happy gaming!

The "Hello World!" comment made me chuckle. =)

I've must have done that in 8 different languages by now.

That's cool, kerbonklin, I remember how happy I was to see it pop up in one language the first time I tried it.  In eight languages you are really saying "Hello" to the "world"!  :)

Cheers

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
