I have read some horror stories about deleting

unused maps or maps that were replaced, etc.

Sometimes, other maps are deleted with them.

Is there any reason why the unwanted maps can't go

with the game?

There are no transfers to or from any of the maps in question.

I have noticed that when I download a game, that all the maps

are listed in the game file.

Could they be deleted from the game file, individually?

Thanks

You can delete them inside rpg maker, just make sure there's no child map inside it, or those will get deleted as well.

That's what I was afraid of.

Not sure about "child map"

Does that mean any map that opens with the + symbol?

yup, that's it. If you delete a map that has child maps (the maps that show if you hit the + sign after the map name), all maps that are a child of it will also be deleted. If you only need this "parent" map to be deleted, just drag the child maps out of the parent first.

RMMV
There is also no reason you can't just leave them where they are, since you asked.  If there are no transfers to those maps from any others, the player will never see them.  And maps are really small files, so unless you have a few hundred unused maps, it's not going to bloat your game.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
