Sorry!  I missed the previous update somehow!  Believe me, I'm following your progress on this one very closely!

As to the first.  Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.  I know I've had random crushes on people much older than me simply because they did something nice to me when I was in a tough situation!  And that's not even life/death.  When faced with life/death, I can DEFINITELY believe it!

It'd certainly prove an entertaining plot point as well.

As to the second...

Well.  You could do as many of the games you seem to be inspired by have done: more RECRUITABLE characters than can fit in your party, and certain choices made throughout the game will determine which ones you keep.

You'd need to some how ensure you'll never go over whatever limit you impose on party size though!

This'll carry with it a nice bonus of extra replayability for those who "gotta have em all" - since they CAN'T in a single play through, they'll play and play and play until they've exhausted every possible party combination.

This is a project I`ll be following. Seems really nice from the videos, and the plot is interesting :D Eagerly awaiting a demo of some sort.

Hello all! Or Some! o_Oa


About a month ago Big Boss declared that soon he will be releasing a teaser demo containing some cut-scenes and the battle system he's been working hard on.


All he has to do is finish the graphics needed and tweak the battle system some more - including a boss fight. In my opinion he's about 85% there. The goal he set for himself has really helped make some progress. :D


Speaking of battle graphics, I thought I'd show off what he's made so far - in the form of GIFs. Everyone loves those, right!? >>;;

We apologize for the lack of sprite graphics during the attacking animations for the battle system. When the character turns a certain color, it means they have run out of "stamina" and must wait a few seconds before attacking again.

KEY D =  Defend
ENTER = Attack or C
SKILLS = Q, W, A, or S

Here's an update to the demo that Star released.

For those that already have the game, there's a patch that has everything but the audio and he's also included a copy of the whole game.

Changes include:

* A new enemy detection script made by Star, replacing Gubid's that causes no erros

* A stamina bar

* MP healing at the end of battle

* Back attacks, sneak attacks and surprise attacks have been added

* A number of graphical bugs and glitches have been fixed

* An ability to save during the demo using the (crappy) menu

Just played through the demo, and it's very nicely done! Though it could have been a little longer, that's okay :)

There was some voice acting missing at the end, during the fight with the giant slime. Just pointing it out. On the topic of voice acting, you guys did an AWESOME job! I laughed when Narie said "Oh look, there's a giant freakin' Nom Nom right behind us!" The way she said it was funny. XD

The only issue I had was stamina ran out way too fast. But other than that, the demo was amazing and I can see this game has great potential ^o^

Thank you! The stamina was Star's idea (Big Boss), I think so you can't span attack. I wish there was a better way, though!

I'm glad you liked the voice acting as well! It seems everyone likes that part. I was worried at first. :p

Playing a bit of the demo right now.  Right now I'm in the cave fighting a bat.

Got the game paused and I feel like there's some things I wanted to highlight and talk about so...

Time for the good and the bad.

The Good:

Battle System is both fun and easy to learn.  And I figured out how to change what skills I want to use fairly easily.

The whole thing is user friendly as far as I can tell.

The Intro is quick!

I'm really glad about that.  I got a bit of a feel for the character's personalities and then you gave me reins to start exploring.  A really solid opening in my opinion.

One of the first things I did was go "I see a bee...I must attack that bee!"

The voice acting is enjoyable, but there were a few problems I noticed, I'll discuss those farther down.

The Bustsets.

Really cool looking, like super awesome.

The maps are fairly logical in travelling them.

I haven't found myself lost yet and moving through them is enjoyable, natural, and fun.

The fact that someone (I think Narie) says "Why do they always insist on dying?" I was cracking up over that one.

And being able to pause in combat, that's great.

The Bad:

The title screen could use a facelift.  I like the art you have for it but everything below that is either a boringly black screen or the very simple new/load/quit menu.

Spice it up a little. :3

Certain aspects of the voice acting.

I want to stress that I really like the voice acting.  But there's 2 things that stand out to me.

Firstly, beware of run-on sentences.  I've only noticed this once so far but when Kyran was talking about Narie's butt (hahaha) that sentence ran on a bit and made it seem weird.  Since you have voice actors ask them if what they're saying feels weird or too long that way you can adjust the script accordingly.

Aka, give them time to breath between talking! XD

The Menu.  Now I happen to like the Ability screen but everything else is too dark.  Especially the item screen.  Splash it up with a little bit of artwork or some varying colors.

All in all I'm really enjoying this game, even my complaints are mostly on the visual side.  I'll keep playing and see what else there is to see.

Yeah, I contacted the voice actors to have them play the demo, but I haven't heard anything back from them yet. I'll have to see what happens. o.o


The menu and title screen were never really touched. The menu was originally disabled, but we only enabled it so people could save during the demo. I was trying to get something placeholder-ish there, but Big Boss was kind of rushing. Plus he'd have to do some major scripting, which would take time. He should've used checkpoints/save points for now. o.o Same with the title screen. XD


I'm glad you're enjoying it though! ^_^

Alrighty finished up the demo.

I'll most certainly be keeping an eye on this, I'm quite impressed so far. :D

One of the things I noticed during battle was Kyran likes to do a wind slash thing into thin air. o_O

Like there's no enemies in front of him and he's all like "Take that air, I'ma slash you up!"

Other than that, much the same of what I posted before.

I'm glad you played the demo.  Just so you know that scene in the slime battle
was not, and is not going to be voice acted. Minor scenes like that most likely
won't in order to conserve space.  :) OH LOOK THERE'S A GIANT FREAKING FILE SIZE. XD

On a brighter note, games with voice acting everywhere.  Pretty much every Bethesda Game. STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM!

Hope the new and improved stamina bar will help you.  Thinking about making it refresh quicker too.

Titlescreen is a Work in progress.  Not the highlight of this demo lol.  

And the Ability screen was the only menu I scripted so far.  The first demo had it all disabled because of this, but people demanded to save, so I opened it.  D:

Yeah, I know Kyran slashes the Air. :( ((( STUPID KYRAN, if I was a decent eventer he wouldn't be screwing up.  The problem lies in that I probably haven't determined if the monster is on Kyran's Map Y when facing left or right and Map X when facing up or down.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
