To play-test the demo online click the Banner-Link above or click HERE I would upload a downloadable version but I'm not sure how to do it with MV (I knew how to do it with Ace but... it's not exactly the same I think?). I'll try and I'll edit this if I am able to!

I have started working on a project with my wife. She does the art and I try and muddle my way through eventing, etc. We're both extremely new to this but are loving the program! We're looking to get some feedback for the game so far. It's not terribly long and the beginning still needs some major revamping. Eventually we would like to have all custom art for the faces and expressions (she doesn't know how to sprite so we would stick with character generator sprites). However, at the moment all of the faces in-game are character-generated or RTP until we can get a solid pool to choose from.

NOTE:

-Demo currently ends after defeating the Fairy Boss. There are 3 unlockable characters that you can also try and get (Milayou, Jazz, and Malious).

-The current faces/art in-game will be replaced by custom art. For now they are just placeholders. This includes enemies in battle. However, since we do not know how to sprite we will just be using the character generator sprites.

We're looking for feedback in these areas:

-Cover Art

-Faces/Expressions

-Storyline

-Combat (needs a lot of work...)

-Mechanics/flow (how does the game feel with all of the events/progression)

-Dialog

-Theme/Allure (Is it interesting?)

Some early parts are unfinished-->for example the series of questions in the beginning are supposed to alter your stats and change your starting class depending on your answers. I haven't fleshed out the balancing just yet so atm I am balancing around the main characters default class and her companion's class, and from there I will expand the available classes with their respective strengths.

Synopsis Arc 1:

The story is about the goddess Shinju who has had her powers sealed from her by another god. In order to break the curse she accepts a challenge to go to the human realm and conquer it. She has always looked down on humans due to her godly status and has issues coping with the weaknesses that humans are faced with--she has never felt the constant struggle that humans feel and as the story progresses she realizes that what she used to see as weaknesses in humans can actually be great strength. Eventually she earns a newfound appreciation for humans and eventually succeeds in her task of regaining her goddess status.
There's a lot more, but that's the ghist of how I anticipate the game leading to mid-game. At the moment it is just the tail beginning of the game with a small explorable zone with a sort of 'boss' in it. We would genuinely appreciate feedback, good or bad or both! I apologize in advance for using some pre-made maps but I am considering them placeholders until I can flesh out something more unique ^^
Synopsis Arc 2***SPOILERS***

After regaining her goddess powers Shinju ascends from the world and the story then follows Lux's travels in the world without Shinju. Unbeknownst to Shinju, Atesis, the god who originally sealed her powers, has gone to the human realm and has laid assault on several of the Kingdoms. Lux, along with other allies gained on the original journey, fight to repel Atesis and his godly forces, but the losses slowly accumulate and the friends Shinju made while in the human realm are slowly killed off (and no, there are no dragon balls or magic spells that will bring them back to life from these deaths). Lux gives up his assault on Atesis and his forces and chooses to become a recluse hermit living in the woods.
Synopsis Arc 3***SPOILERS***

Feeling nostalgic, Shinju eventually decides to return to the human realm. So much has changed since she left and glorious cities have now been turned to ruin. Unbeknownst to her it's been over a century since she was last in the human realm--gods perceive time differently in their realm. She travels to different cities looking for the old allies she once had while also trying to uncover the source of the disasters. She eventually finds an old, old man living in the woods, on the verge of death. The old man is Lux who can no longer speak since he has not done so in years. He takes Shinju to the bone-site of their past allies, and for the first time ever Shinju shows true human emotions. Now, instead of fighting for her own gain, she chooses to wage battle against Atesis and his forces for what they did to her friends. Thus, she goes about assembling a force of battlers strong enough to dispel the Atesis.
Synopsis Arc 4 and 5***SPOILERS***

This Arc follows Shinju's assault on Atesis's forces with her new battalion of gods fighting along-side her. In order to infiltrate his domain in the human realm Shinju must defeat his 4 Hegemons who are currently occupying each of the 4 Kingdoms. Since the 4 Hegemons are gods and goddesses anyone they defeat is cannot be brought back to life. As the story progresses more and more of Shinju's allies die along the way. Eventually she defeats the 4 Hegemons and goes to enter Atesis' domain alone. Before she goes in, she's met with an unlikely ally, an old, old man--Lux. He claims to still have fight left in him and refuses to let her go alone. Furthermore, Lux has a spell that can summon their lost ally, the Spirit Wolf's Spirit in battle. He has also brings with him the perverted great-great-great Grandchild of their lost ally, Malious from Arc 1.The 4 Legends go into battle for one last assault on Atesis in his domain.
Characters:

Shinju:

A goddess who does not quite understand why humans act the way they do. She constantly criticizes them and looks down upon them for their vulnerable and weak tendencies. She comes off selfish, rude, and indifferent primarily because she feels that she is superior to humans and lacks what she perceives to be their weaknesses. This calm superiority complex also allows her to observe situations without her judgment getting clouded by emotions.

Lux:

The human who Shinju first encounters--he tries to explain the complexities of human emotion and volition to her, and tries to present logical explanations on why humans act the way they do, to no avail. While he fails to convince Shinju of the beauty of humans, she keeps him around since it is of her benefit to do so.

You should consider redesigning Lux, he looks far too similar to Lelouch from the anime Code Geass. Heck, even the names are similar.

Someone else told me this and so I think we will try and re-design him. I'll probably have her convert this into one of the anti-hero gods. She could change the current scheme to lux for some ethereal blonde and maybe change his eyes to blue and that would probably be distinct enough from traditional anime protagonists with his style of hair. Once we figure out how to use busts for text boxes instead of the small figures we'll be revamping that.

I really like Shinju :)
Thank you! I really like her design as well.

I really appreciate the feedback, guys!

The story has a lot of potential. The synopsis for all of the 5 arcs is well thought out. I am looking forward to seeing how it is brought into life in-game :) Besides that, things look like quite standard RPG Maker product for now. I'll return once there is a bit more to hold on to instead of placeholders ;)

I really do appreciate the feedback w/ respect to the Arcs. While it's unfortunately I mostly only have RTP atm, that's fixable over time but having a bad story can pretty much ruin a game's progress. Thanks for checking it out and I'll make it explicit when we've incorporated more original art and tiles into the game :)

As for nearly every new RMV game that is being developed out there, the default confirmation sound is something incredibly annoying and irritating. Please change it to something more tolerable.

There is also a discrepance in the volume between the BGM and several Sound effects, some being too quiet and others being way too loud.

Glimmering, Life Sap, Thundering Strike, Spirit Wind can all be used outside of battle with the only effect of wasting MP.

The transition that should lead inside the house in the upper/left corner does not work. If you attempt to enter you'll just get the screen blacking in and out and that's it.

The warrior can't use swords and shields, the cleric can't use staffs, not even the one you find in her house.

The staff you find in Milly's house is named Cane, like the one in the shop, but has different stats, perhaps giving it a different name (like Milly's Cane) would be appropriate?

If you talk to the lady in the house full of cats and then examine the vase, it says you obtained an Ice Ring, but you actually get nothing.

After defeating the Fairy, I tried to proceed deeper into the forest, but there is no transiction at the end of the screen. Is that where the demo ends? Because I was stuck there and had no idea how to progress further.

Wow, thanks so much for the thorough feedback! And yes, that is currently the end of the demo (I should have put something in the game stating such). Well there are a couple easter eggs like unlocking Jazz, or Malious (innkeeper 'boss' battle). Sounds are definitely one of my first priorities, thanks for helping identify some of the culprits. I especially thank you for pointing out these bugs that I overlooked (very hard for me to playtest and find all of these bugs myself--I find a lot but not all)!

All of these will be fixed tonight! Well, minus the sounds. I'll work on them but for me fixing the sound issue takes a while @_@ After that I plan on adding another playable area and furthering the story. Thanks a lot for play-testing to such a thorough extent! I'd be happy to reciprocate if you ever need!

I think the demo is an older build of the game as it used generator face art and not the stuff you have here? Oh well, I'll commentate on what I saw.

Hm my biggest problems are:

  • The dialogue doesn't take itself seriously ("I'll just wander around the village because I can't remember where I live", "I'll take your panties"). The plot seems really nice and like a serious game, but the dialogue falls flat.
  • There were too many questions at the beginning. Noone is that patient.
  • Actions speak louder than words, and what I mean by that is instead of explaining what is happening in scrolling text, show the head goddess lady stripping the goddess of her magic and casting her down to earth, telling her the only way she can return is to prove herself by conquering the humans she looks down upon.
  • Please get an animated enemy script. The battles were so dull and lifeless
  • I don't know about other people, but online MV games always lag terribly for me. Could you offer a downloadable version.
  • The transitions are really poor. It goes from heaven (?) to field to village with little transition. It felt that way mostly because it allowed us to walk around as the character then went in to cutscene again so quickly.
  • oh my fricking god the cat house. The cats walk randomly and blocked the door and wouldn't move so I had to restart the game ._. no
Don't get me wrong I love the idea, just some stuff could use some polish

I really appreciate the feedback. I planned on polishing the dialogue to some extent but can understand why you don't necessarily approve of the attempts at humor--it does seem to conflict with the more serious undertones of the story, not quite sure how I plan to resolve that conflict yet though. As for the animated battlers definitely going to look for that!

We do have more custom art for the game which will probably go live this weekend. We decided to go full-body poses instead of just the face-shots, so I'll muddle through that script and figure it out.

You're not the only one to complain about the evil cat house T___T I think I'll extend the exit to 2 or 3 blocks wide <_< or figure something more practical than them blocking the door like that.

I apologize for not having a DL version available. I guess it might sound silly since I figured out how to do it on Ace but I have no idea how to do it on MV XD... I bought ace about 2 weeks before MV came out and so I'm still trying to learn the systems @_@

Again, thank you very much. A lot of your suggestions will go live in the next patch.

Thank you very much! The artist (Shinju) has been working really hard on improving her style for the game ^_^ Much more art will be incoming (I should probably update the first post ^^ )

Really nice art and a cool premise (it kind of reminds me to lunar 2...ever played it?), played it a bit, but mv works like crap on my ancient computer. It's a good start, man.  :) :thumbsup-right:

Ihates the fire sage's island, though :p

I uploaded a version yesterday but it doesn't have the newest character (and her set of art) that was just finished. If the mouse cursor is a feather on the screen then you're playing the newest version, but sometimes it doesn't update immediately for people since the game stores its memory in cache.

Thank you very much! I tell the artist anytime someone compliments her work ^^ She's trying very hard to improve her style and almost never receives any feedback on her art on DA or anywhere, so it's good for her to hear honest feedback!

You actually found the Fire Sage's Island (derpy name but I consider it just a placeholder for now)?! I honestly think you're the first person to find it, or at least the first person to mention it to me. At the moment it's a bit -too- ridiculous. Thinking of toning it down some, but I wanted to have some unnecessarily ridiculously difficult and unfair content in the game (which is also completely optional side content) for people into that sort of unfair challenge. I plan on adding several more variations of that throughout the game and putting special unlockable characters at the end, or just more "story".

Never played Lunar 2 but I may go check it out for inspiration!

Thanks for the support guys. We've never done this before and so getting supportive feedback is very encouraging ^_^

He mad, but he cute :kaopride:

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
