Synopsis:

Back in the day terrible entities covered the world in death and famine, unmatched by anything the world had to offer. That was, of course, until a group of legendary adventurers decided to finally put an end to their reign.
After travelling to every corner of the world and gathering great power, they managed to banish the terrors from the world, and for their efforts were blessed with the gift of eternal life.

With the world saved and nothing to fight at the moment, the heroes of old decided to establish the great Adventurer Academies. Where children from around the world go to become heroes of legend. Or at least kill a couple monsters that pester their villages.
With the old horrors gone, and a steady supply of adventurers being produced, the world enjoyed peace for decades.

Until suddenly, the roads connecting towns, dungeons and schools were blocked. Great monsters appeared to protect those roadblocks, and suspicious individuals were sighted near the many schools around the world.

Enter the last class to enroll in Dawn Academy this year (in control of the player), ready and willing to face whatever is happening now. Sudden monster appearances aren't that rare, after all.
This world's trials ended long ago, this couldn't possibly affect their hard-earned peace...

This game is a semi-open world dungeon crawling RPG (first-person to be specific). There is a story to get through (only the very start avaliable for now), and roadblocks tied to it, but there is a heavy emphasis on free exploration and many dungeons to get into while clearing the main quests. Always full of chests to find, hunt marks to chase and layouts to explore.

The second focus is on character customization. With character creation that allows for each member of the party to be completely unique, hundreds (I counted) of pieces of equipment that can be further customized and upgraded, and the ability to mix and match abilities from any class that character has dipped into.

And finally battle. A timeline based ATB system focused on controlling timing and pulling off combos for extreme damage, crippling chains of status effects, unbreakable party support or any other way you can manage to win with.

What I have finished should last for a couple of hours and be a decent taste of what I'm working towards. But feedback and recommendations (not to mention extra testing) would be greatly appreciated.
Everything is obviously WIP so if you find anything weird (or broken) let me know. Please.

Keep in mind, however, that the 3d rendering system might make playing this game on older laptops not a great idea. Most desk PCs should be fine (mine was decent 5-6 years ago and runs good).

The size to big.
Can you tried to squez a bit.. Or make short game like 30 minutes and added cheat like easy leveling..
And added word v 0.1 a is my advice.. If you fix it. You can add sub number for every fix.

-Compressed file size reduced from 420mb (heh) to 372mb. neat.
-Added a couple crafting recipes to the school's catalogue that should have always been there.

Like welcoming to the office. And then asked to make custom character (1) before going to real tutorial. Or just give basic character (but you not use later on, for tutorial purpose).

During tutorial, we give item and ask to use it.. example item to make us learn the something (just example) or item that give us health.. by giving us damage and then asked to use it outside the battle or inside the battle
fyi.. if you not added this suggestion is fine.. sometime we caught on work and forgot basic game.. better give some tutorial place that can help us to remember. In this tutorial place, you can show how to like first game..

Since this is a dorm and study like game.. You will need to make player follow the whole step from
  • intro
  • making group
  • buy item or perhaps give player borrowed item first.. and after first battle. All weapon taken from player
  • how to use dorm
  • how to use other place
  • Etc
Since I'm not kinda read long sentence. I kinda missed some part, where you need to buy item, return to dorm, take money and soon. But I'm lucky to buy it first before battle.

since making the custom character is kinda long. Is not clear the advance or downside choose other race

If you undestand DnD.. choose race is already have advance and disadvance (cmiiw). I prefer to give few option on status and give more on accesory like having green eyes etc (not good advice I think). My review on this custom list:
  • name. Can be type last. Is okay
  • race. Include with basic stat
  • gender. Related to some race don't have gender (or better we not talking about that). This gender related also to job he/she can handle max.. like FFT.. female char handle pure attack than magic.
  • battle status plus/minus. This should related to race
  • friendly status plus/minus. This is new.. But I'm not found any relation to this status. Is posible related to love2 scene (not 18+)

I'm still not play long. but if 10 minutes waste on fight teacher (thats give good tutorial).. I'm not recommended

  • Give 3 friend (senior) and asked to form a party

  • give access to mission

  • give step by step learning curve on this game. Don't put on 1 converstation
  • make only 1 custom, and then open to more custom after player understand the game basic
  • borrow item to use as during battle. Asked player to use in the battle or in menu
  • give senior to learn together with you as guest character
  • give 1 room for learning purpose. This room only open if you finish all the lecture.. Perhaps you already make it

Update 0.3:

-Moonrise School is now accessible after completing the "-Urgent Request-" mission (and clearing any bosses that block the path). the Elkian, Draiad, Sprite and Sylph races, and the Druid, Tamer, Weaver, Whistler, Elementalist and Geomancer classes are unlocked after visiting. missions and requests will be avaliable in the next update (in a week if possible).

-the shop at the academy now sells one of every weapon type, and the Wand weapon type has been added.

Update 0.4:

-The Old Brume Tower dungeon is now accessible, to the north-west past Grayrock Pass.
-The Druid, Elementalist, Geomancer, Weaver, Whistler and Tamer classes are now fully imlpemented.
-2 Requests have been added to Moonrise School, "Amaris the Hoarder -2-" and "Old Weapons of War".
-A bunch of enemies that had incorrect elemental affinities have been corrected.

I play again but using the 0.1 (I will tried download the new). This is my newest review (play 30 minutes)
when play on first.. Try not open all option. Making the player run over a circle to finish quest and the quest can be done by talking to man/woman inside building
This method can be used to make your custom player strong. For job .. Just give few like warior and healer. By finishing some quest.. Other job open
By locking job, player must explore all place
The custom system are kinda wasting time. I prefer on start level, we already have 3 character and then asked to make the 4th or something.
I'm needed npc explain the self-status, advance and disadvantage when choose
The race are related to job? Or just cosmetic

since you need to create 6 customize... it take 3 minutes or more to have character (minimal). I suggest added random customize or make simpler
as mention on intro. Party management should be on dorm. But you can customize on office?

fyi.. the learning option is hidden below.. My suggestion is to put on top before Equip Abilities. If I forgot where the ability, then my character unable to level up easy.. related to leveling.. You have balance problem on your game
RPG problem is not always leveling, but balancing player vs enemy. To strong is not good.. to weak is not good also.
I play from start.. then my enemy have high power/attack and defence.. How I can level up?

This may be a dumb question and I am probably missing something obvious, but I am assuming this was made in an RPG Maker engine. If so, which one? MV?

@gundambison the letter on the name part = not a font issue, read my
post #6 which explain the fix, this is also on the default font :)

and it is never fixed, but most people should add this fix as it is extremely
usefull for whatever font you wanna use, specially if you use name input window.

I definitely need to add some guidance at the start to tell the player where to begin (the plains to the northeast from the school are the level 1 area, you have very bad luck).

I just finished an optional default roster so you don't HAVE to make a whole party right away (coming in this next update). but random characters seem like a cool addition so I'll try to do that too.

You can check what every element of customization does in the equipment menu. I thought about telling the player what each one does in the customization screen but that extends the process a LOT so I'm not sure about that.

And the font issue is because you don't have the game's actual font installed. It's in www > fonts.
I'll add a message about that.

Update 0.5:

-A new dungeon, "Southern Fort Leonne", is now accessible to the east from Nereid Port.
-Old Brume Tower has been fixed. Whoops.
-You no longer need to have the game's custom font installed to correctly display text. Wohoo!
-You can now choose to start the game with 4 premade characters. You still get to name them and everything works exactly the same.
-A LOT of enemies have their AI fixed. Especially later ones.
-A bunch of boss enemies now correctly display their abilities in the bestiary.
-Dungeons now have a recommended level marker, visible in the world map.
-The request "Leaf's Quiz Game" is now avaliable at Moonrise School's Dorm.

the next update will probably have a considerable reduction in file size, randomized characters and more quests/hunts. hopefully in a week.

Hey! I've only gotten through the Ecclesia Plains, & am in the middle of the Ruins of Ehindall, but I wanted to give my feedback so far.

First, I wanna say that I'm liking this demo so far! It's got a lot of potential, and it's clear that a lot of work was put into it as soon as the character creation process showed up. I'll definitely be following the progress and cheering you on.

The battle system is a nice spin on the usual, especially the Pressure mechanic, & the ability to break enemy's spellcasting.

  • General:
What is AP for? I get some at the end of battle, but can't see it in any menus. Is AP explained later & it's just something I havent reached?

  • Errors:
The game always softlocks after I beat any sort of boss/miniboss for quests or hunts. The battle just doesn't advance to the victory screen after I kill the boss.

The Amaris the Hoarder -1- request that you can get at the dorm doesn't have any text, & doesn't get added to my journal.

After resting from night to day, the night sound effects (the owls & stuff) still plays at the academy even though it's daytime. The sound stops if I leave the academy, though.

Depositing Items & Weapons doesn't work. Depositing gold works, though.

  • Typos:

Relic Hunt 1 Quest:
When I first start the quest with Ms. Aureo, she says "good" but it's all in lowercase (I forgot to take a screenshot.)

Old Ruin Text Quest: When checking on Silv by using the "meeting" option, his halfbody image doesn't appear like anyone eles's.

The description for Ripper Edge starts with a lowercase d.

The description for Thick Meatballs is the same as Bandage.

The status description for Pressure is "Ammo currently available. 5 bullets are reloaded when a battle starts." which... doesn't sound like what Pressure does at all.

Overleveled and Temperance don't have status descriptions. There might be others, but those are the two I noticed.

  • Suggestions:
Show how each option affects stats during character customization, if possible. I know a plugin by DreamX allows a help menu to display while selecting choices if that interests you. If that plugin doesn't work, then maybe a notepad/text document inside the game's folder that lists all the buffs/debuffs each option gives?

The wait time between leaving the main menu and going back to the selection menu at the academy takes too long, imo.

At night, it's very difficult to see certain enemies. Could the tint be a little brighter?

The boss music for the Awakened Guardian in Ecclesia Ruins (& other bosses that use this music) has a long pause before it loops.

Is there possibility to add an item that lets you leave dungeons & go back to the academy/world map?

-Item/Gear storage now does, in fact, work.
-Boss encounters now work properly. Oof.
-Some enemies that had the wrong face displayed in the timeline are now fixed.
-Night sounds now end when night ends.
-A bunch of descriptions are fixed.

Don't do tomorrow what you can do today, or you'll forget and crash into it in a week.

the problem is, this is not balancing.. since your weak enemy give damage 100++ and sometime 200!! while your HP is 1000 .. it mean when you using cheap item.. You need to use it..   • next things you have consider are As you progress through the game, you can level up your avatar (checked) and team members (I mean the game are team not 1 person and other interact with him/her), unlocking new abilities (ability on your race) and customization (Skill etc). You can also acquire and equip gear, ranging from swords and armor to magical artifacts, that enhance your combat prowess. This is the reason why I'm typing a lot on this. But still is lot to do to achieve those goal.

I will try to ignore that..
google says it's an issue with your PC's app data.

it seems to be harmless and not related to the game itself, so IDK if I can even do anything about that :/

This is something I randomely made in my free time while trying to find alternative ways to post images here instead of imgur, hope it doesn't look too blurry or bad.
Had an epiphany on how I could turn my massive double digit year planned project into like a 4-5 years thing, much simpler, smaller, still pretty grand, yet far more doable.
Considering whether I should still release my demo or not.
Reckon I might. It's its own story from start to finish and it would still work as a tech preview or something.
