Hello all!

I am so sorry if this is asked before. I have looked all over and have not found the answer to my question. I have read a ton of tutorials and watched videos, but it seems I'm just completely clueless because I can't get my map to work!

Basically, I created this map in photoshop:

When I first started making it, I was under the impression I could somehow make the entire image something the characters could walk over, and all I would have to do is specify where they couldn't walk (the walls and etc). It didn't work however, as the background would move around whenever my character walked. I don't know if just making this image a ground layer that my character can walk on is possible. Based on everything I read, it seems like I have to bust these up into layers.

Okay, fine, I can do that! So, I made this layer:

and set it as an overlay image using the overlay [FIXED] script, and then I set the walls and floors as a parallax background. Well, now the floor and walls don't move around under my character when she walks, but now I have the problem that my character is going under all the items, instead of on top or not at all :(

Again, I'm so sorry if this has been answered. I have a feeling I read the answer several times, but I'm just too dense to understand it. I'm at my wits ends and my brain hurts, if anyone can help me out I would weep tears of happiness!

Thank you!

Is your map image the correct size for the number of tiles in your map? Should be tiles across x 32, tiles down x 32.

If you want to parallax, you will need a parallax overlay script that will let you set the overlay image (anything you want to appear ABOVE the player).

The parallax will be anything you want the actors to appear above/over. The pictures/overlays should only be what you want to appear above/over the actors.

Then when you show the parallax in the editor, you'll want to set the invisible tiles the actors walk on.

Thanks for the replies!

It should be the correct size, but maybe it isn't? I have it set as 26 by 19 in the RPG editor. It's the same size as a sample map that I used to make this. Is there a way to tell if it's the correct size since RPG editor doesn't measure in pixels?

That's what I did, but like I said, for some reason the parallax map ends up moving around whenever my character walks :(

Try using yanfly's parallax script to lock the first image below the character. Add "<tile lock parallax>" to the maps note box.

If you want anything to appear above the character you would need an extra layer image for it and use yami's overlay mapping script.
I'll try that!

EDIT: YAY! IT WORKED! Thank's Baka-Chan! <3 <3 <3 *e-hugs*

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
