"Ideas without proof of concept has little value to evaluate" - A friend of mine.
A short story, there was little a controversion in my closed circle. Someone has said that an idea should have a proof of concept, so everyone can actually evaluate the idea. While it's indeed true, it was a bit complicated in my side.
I released the demo of my game back in early 2018, with whatever contents I had, I was not even sure if I really want it that way. But I released it anyway. After months, I realized it was suck and I had to take down the game. So I changed almost the entire game, and it blew me away. Because I might disappoint someone in the corner of this world since I changed the game.
Before that time, I always eager to share my progress and stuff, i.e, development log. But after that, I realized that the thing I work today might not be fixed, probably I'm gonna fix it later or change completely with different stuff. So I went underground. I don't share stuff like I usually do (I still share some in my twitter, but that's it). I feel like if I share stuff, people may start to expect something that may not in the final product.
It feels like my credibility at the stake.
Shall I release a demo so that people could evaluate it sooner?
But what if I changed the idea later because I'm not even sure if I want it this way?
Shall I share some development progress that might not be in the final version (Hey, I added feature X, nah I'm joking, it suck after I tested it several times, so I changed to Y)?
What if I suddenly build up hype then disappoint them later?
When should I share my game, at all? Near completion? As early as possible? Whenever I like?
I have my game page, but now I even think it's too early to even make the page for it. Even the basic story premise is still changing.
