Hey guys,
I am in the process of writing NPC dialogue for my harvest moon-like game. I was wondering about your thoughts on dialogue in those types of games. For example, do you talk to the character more than once? Do you just talk to them to increase your friendship or are you interested in what they have to say? etc...

Right now, this is basically what I have:
1) The first time you talk to them, they say a greeting dependent on their friendship. Sometime greetings are more detailed than others if the character is talkative or something similar. This interaction gives you the friendship boost.
2) The second time you talk to them, the character reveals something about their likes/dislikes or their past, or tells you an interesting story, etc... What they reveal is also dependent on their friendship.
3) The third time you talk to them, they say something random from a pool of dialogue that I wrote for the character (they will say something about the rainy weather if it's raining, or talk about how winter makes their joints ache in the winter, etc.). If you talk to them again, they will repeat this last thing.

NOTE: The NPCs have several places they go throughout the day. The first lines of dialogue are usually the same no matter the NPC's location. The second lines of dialogue change depending on their location (their house, church, the store, etc). and the third lines of dialogue may or may not change (what is said is random, controlled by conditional branches).

So basically, I'm writing a LOT of dialogue, which I do enjoy, but is it worth it in your opinion? Do you guys, especially you guys that play harvest moon-type games, even read the dialogue? Or, even better do you have a better way than what I'm doing now (see middle paragraph)? What have you noticed about dialogue patterns in harvest moon-like games you've played?

Thanks for your advice! It's greatly appreciated!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
