If you've ever played Sugoro Quest or a 100 story's Tale (NES GAMES), these are both dice based movement games.
Sugoro Quest moreso because even battles are decided on Dice roles.
(Mario Party also does this but it's a party game.)

I feel like recreating this style of gameplay will require a heavy event styled game. Almost everything would be common event after common event along with variables.

Personally the idea of dice rolling to move about the map is neat and could even allow multi player RPG games. A race to the end of a dungeon and see who defeats the Boss. (Battles would be turn based but shift from one player to the other, this would require battles not being tru battles but rather event's also). I may tackle a short game that does this once I get my DQ Demo out of the way, to demonstrate what I mean!

Anyone here ever tried to make their own Dice roll based quests?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
