So after noticing that my game was lagging terribly in battle (hovering around 30-35 FPS), I literally spent the last 2 hours re-configuring and replacing plugins to find out what may be the cause.

Turns out it's the font that I'm using. Switching back and forth between my font and the default fonts pretty much confirms this. I'm not familiar with the specifics of fonts and how MV generates them in-game. Why would a particular font cause so much lag in battle? Mind you, this is ONLY in battle. Using the font for standard message windows in-field doesn't cause any problems.

I'm really bummed out because this particular font is very important when it comes to creating a retro aesthetic. Has anyone else had this problem?

I would be really surprised if it's the font.

Which font are you having the issue with? Perhaps you are using a rather un-optimized bitmap font or somesuch.

Try the font load from triacontane

And tell us if is more performant.
I have no problem with this one.

@Shaz

You're right. After spending most of the night researching to see if anyone else had the problem, I've come across a few people mentioning this, and all have been using Yanfly plugins. I've tried over 10 different fonts downloaded from online, mostly pixel fonts. When using Yanfly's demo project, switching to particular fonts causes lag. So I'll have to get in touch with Yanfly.

@Exhydra That's what I was thinking. But after trying several different fonts, I'm not sure that's the case.

@Jonforum Thanks for this Jon. Unfortunately it didn't do the trick.

I'll have to dig in a bit deeper, or bite the bullet and accept the fact that my favorite pixel fonts don't play well with Yanfly plugins.

Most easy way is use the timeline

Here a old video i made to check the lag since the pixi 2.
Is for android, but you can do the same thing for windows, and found the (flick) Frame rate and the plugin do this

Hope this can help you to dig in a bit deeper :)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
