Maybe it's just me, but this game was just a huge disappointment. The combat system is boring, plain, and even somewhat outdated. Now, I am not very familiar with the combat style of the SF franchise, and the last SF game I played was Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter about ten years ago. Compared to Tekken, which I play most, or Persona 4 Arena, it feels very lacking.
There isn't many different combos that you can chain, and they are usually pretty short. It gets boring after awhile using the same limited movesets and tactics. The game has six attack buttons, and yet, has a smaller move list and combo variety than the other fighting games?
The last thing that pressed my berserk button is the final boss, Akuma. Good lord. I could tolerate the combat system, but this guy is cheap as heck. Almost every time I try to attack him, he would nullify it with an uppercut, send me to the ground, and proceed to throw me just when I get up. Then, he moves back and spam fireballs. What happens when I jump up and kick him? Uppercut - throw - fireballs. I did manage to beat him a few times, but then, I didn't feel that it was worth continuing.
I am not a hardcore fighting gamer, but enough to be familiar with the genre. I was planning on getting UMvC, but now I am having second thought. Is that game's combat system similar to this? I remember playing the first one on PS1, and it was quite fun. Not sure if it's like the older games, or is it similar to this one.
I regret spending 10 bucks on it for the Vita. Deleted it, along with KZ Mercenary. And these two were supposedly among the best that the Vita has. Well... just my opinion, and I got other games to try, anyway.
