DIVINITY

SECTION A: SYNOPSIS
  • Divinity (not final name, probably) is my first RPG, heavily story focused. It's the story of a cocky young adult driven by revenge who will learn that a big ego is not the best thing to have. Expect spiritual and religious content in the game.
  • The little amount of battle being put in the game is being well thought, so each type of major enemy will be different and have a different strategy.
  • I'd really appreciate some feedback on anything you might think can be improved. It's a short demo with maximum 20 minutes of gameplay. (I do suggest saving constantly since crashes are happening. Probably some script issue)

SECTION B: CHARACTERS
  • Sten - Young adult, he lived most of his life in the Floating Temple and only knew that his parents were killed when he returned home. Very cocky and stubborn, says what's in his mind without thinking - which can hurt people who think dearly of him.
  • Marcus - Older than Sten by 5 cycles, they met at the Floating Temple and are best friends since then. After he finished his training in the temple he started traveling the world. A mentor to Sten (though he rarely listens), and a calm, centered man.
  • Detail - An android from the future with the sole task of following the first person she meets. Not much can be said about her, but she learns fast.
  • Theodorus - (under development) A paladin who managed to get out of the Paladin Order's grasp. Lives to the north in Icemouth Harbor.
  • Giaccherius - (under development) A goofy lad, loves to crack jokes and pranks. Also a big coward.

SECTION C: SETTING AND/OR WORLD DEVELOPMENT
  • Artimeshia, a realm reigned by magic. The Order of the Paladins influences and control people’s thoughts and beliefs through trickery and deceit. They annihilated the ancient races and are now pursuing Spellblades, who are the original caretakers of the world. Sten, the main character of this story, lost his family in an invasion that The Order organized to capture him when he was a child.

    Why him you ask?

He is the Divine Child, the Spellblade who will bring Artimeshia to a happier state of consciousness. The Order failed to capture him on the first invasion of Eastend, Sten’s home village, for the Sages of the Floating Temple nurtured him since he was born. Unfortunately, Sten left the Temple before he finished his training, but his abilities are still unmatched to that of any other Spellblade. Now on his early twenties, Sten lives with his childhood friend, Marcus, knowing very well that the Order needs to be taken care of.

I've provided a download link for the game along with the RTP, since not a lot of people are working with VXA nowadays:

IF YOU PLAYED MY DEMO TO THE END
There's a scene after the final battle that I forgot to include in the demo, and my internet is really slow, so I can't upload another demo without my family complaining.

SPOILER ALERT

Basically Detail goes to the middle of the village and "sleeps" there. She dreams about her father and the dialogue goes like this:

They're on top of a building, with a big city in front of them (modern time city)
Detail is at the edge:
Father - Are you going to take the leap of faith?
Detail - I don't think I'm ready yet, father...
-It's alright Detail, whenever you're ready.
-FAther, why do I feel so sad? It's the only emotion that's inside of me. I've learned everything about humans, yet, I can't have their emotions... Except for sadness... Is this what humans call depression?
Come, Detail. You need to get back to your stasis chamber.

SPOILER FINISHED

Thank you very much for using your precious time to play my demo! Any form of feedback is welcome!

Looks really good thematically! I'm giving it a shot!
EDIT: I played your demo!
-The acoustic guitar is a really great choice. I say take it and run if you're the one recording this!
-older people/people with bad monitors are going to have a really hard time seeing in the temple of hope. maybe brighter floor tiles? Also, it might look better if you set the tint before you fade in the screen
- I like when I can avoid enemy encounters. This would be a great feature in the desert. If you want the enemies to at least be somewhat obscured, theres always the option of a sandstorm.
-Bonetheif was creepy as heck. I definitely felt like he was easier than the main character was portraying, especially when casting wind every turn.
-"Detail" is the best name I've heard for any character, ever.

Overall, I like the concept! The writing could use some better word choice in places, and the combat could use slightly better balancing. That being said, I'm genuinely curious to see what happens to Detail and company in future updates!
You should check out what I'm working on, because I'm exploring some similar religious themes. My demo should be out within the next month :)

Thanks a lot for playing it! You made cheer with joy hehe.

-The acoustic guitar is a friend of mine, I don't play nearly as good as him. He's helping me out with the acoustic guitar. Another friend of mine is going to help with some orchestra and piano as well, he's also a great musician.
-I don't know if you got the lantern at the beggining of the Temple. A friend of mine didn't know she could grab the lantern. Unless it's dark even with the lantern?
-In regards to combat: I'm going to completely remove random encounters. I personally hate them haha. Bonethief indeed needs some balancing, but I think I will program the whole game then think of balancing the combat of everything later when the story and maps are done. Glad you thought he was creepy hehe.
-Not gonna lie, I'm in love with her name as well.

Again, thanks for taking your time playing it! I'll consider all your tips in the future. I'll check out your project now!

AH, I did not get the lantern hahaha. That makes much more sense. Good choice with the random encounters! Thanks for checking my project out, too :)

I've got good news and bad news. The good news is, there aren't any bad news to report. The bad news is, there aren't any good news to report.

Or as others say, yesterday was uneventful.

I am curious that can you "understand/get the point" about what does this place do generally?

After 'multiple breakdowns', it's finally over. 10/10 will do this again.
Ever notice that villains can reform and become better people, but heroes can only ever die... or live long enough to see themselves become villains?

Isn't that interesting?
