Do you like the ''High Fantasy'' art style?

Hi everyone,

personally I quite like it, as it has a more grim undertone and reminds me of old RPGs such as Baldur's Gate.

I'm curious though, do you find it visually attractive? I've seen that some people find if hideous, I'm wondering what you think.

Hmm... I can see over 16 treasure boxes on my tilesheet, Interiors 5. They're not animated, but I think they will do ^_^

Sure it's well done and isn't visually unappealing, but it's just not my taste... I tend to go for the games that stray away from realism in looks. It's just a personal preference of mine, it doesn't mean I won't play one with such graphics as long as it's fun. Kind of like an old sega game I have around here somewhere, ah here it is "Golden Axe"  it was designed as a side-scrolling RPG  with realistic graphics. I thought it would be fun regardless of my preference, and played it for a few hours. Oh and it was fun! Little story, but the gameplay was action packed and overall fun to play with... but one thing made me stop playing the game and that was....drumroll... No save feature! Agh!!! The one thing that really kills old Sega Genisis games, the lack of a save feature.. man!

Other fun games were fun with such graphics include "Ghouls'n Ghosts" and one that I did not like due to gameplay and just... it was bad! "Sword of Vermilion"

That's my preference and a few games that I enjoyed and hated with such graphics. All of them are on the Sega Genisis, so yes they are aged games.

The High Fantasy II pack comes with animated treasure chests.

I love the style of these resources. I'm just holding out for future releases before I do anything with 'em. I'm still hoping for animated fire sprites to be created in this style; the RTP flames really don't go well with these resources.

If it's the treasure chests you're still referring to, it's High Fantasy II pack, not Mythos Horror pack, which has them.

My point is why is a pack being sold in the first place without a single chest?

I like it, it reminds me of the likes of Might and Magic and Ishar. Typical PC-RPG stuff of old. :)

Mythos Horror is about 20th century horror games - you usually don't find pirate treasure chests in 1940er horror stories, so it doesn't surprise me that PVG provided other resources for those games, but not treasure chests...

It is just renders of DAZ & Poser models.

A large number of the models used have been free items DAZ offered at one time or ran on sale.  A couple of the items came from other 3D sites by the way, but the vat majority are DAZ models..

I have about off hand I'd say 80% of the exact same 3D models that were used.

You can get a non gritty image of the same 3D model depending on your render settings, exact software used, shades setting,  and any post work done in GIMP or Photoshop.

I purchased all the packs to support the RPGMaker website site but I don't get any use out of them.

For the chest issue I would say that the artist didn't have access to any chest models that would be appropriate and didn't want to spend any money acquiring a model that could be used as a chest.  Since it is a 1930s setting one could use a couple of 3D props like jewelry boxes, storage boxes, etc. to work as a Treasure Chest with some renders if you needed something to work with the pack.

I don't care for the grittiness of the art in the pack and in several cases the models don't look as good as they could if they had been render differently.

If you go download DAZ Studio at the DAZ Site, which is free and comes with some basic content you can see what I'm talking about in regards to the renders.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
