I actually just designed a dog/monster concept for one of my characters. The storyline behind him is he's just your average dog, I'm gonna call him Boof. You see him a few times around the city while you go about doing things yadda, yadda. Just a small little pupper. Later in the story, he gets abducted and used in some shady research, and he's no longer just a pup. I mean he is, and he starts combat as just a little pupper, but as he uses Skills he develops a Buff called Rage. Rage stacks to 3, and each stack increases your damage by 10% but also increases the damage you take. When you get three stacks of Rage, you become Enraged and transform into a Werebeast version. You have a lot more defense and strength, and flat health regen now, but you're also slower. Your skills also change to deal more damage, and do a lot more damage with Attack as well. The dog can also use magic and the like like other party members if he has it equipped. He doesn't talk cause he's literally a dog off the street, but my goal is to have his sprite show his emotion, so he'll wag his tail when he's excited, cover his face with his paws when embarassed, lie down and fall asleep when the group is talking political stuff.

In the new Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild game, you can get Wolf Link as a partner if you have the amiibo. Afaik he helps you by fetching items, fighting enemies, and I think you can ride him? Maybe you can give your canine party member a passive ability to receive extra loot in battle and find random items in the world once in a while.

in Fallout 4 you practically start with Dogmeat, a German Shepard if I'm not mistaken. Nothing special but I saw someone make an armor mod for him it's kinda cool. It reminded me of Zoids. Liger Zero's different armors for certain types of battles. Schneider, Panzer, Shield, Jager, X, etc.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
