Ever since I play Legend of the Super Saiyan on Super Nintendo I've wanted to see a really great, and complete RPG based on the franchise. RPG Maker seemed the solution and back in the day there was a ton of resources based on the property. None of those old resources are compatible with the newer software, though.

Nowadays there isn't even a fraction of what there used to be, and what is there doesn't come with battler animations. So my question is, would it be worth it to even try to make a DBZ RPG with the current system?

I played Attack of the Saiyans, a fantastic one-off RPG, and couldn't help but think how great it could've been if there was a series that covered more of the franchise. RMMV seems to be capable of replicating this style based on some videos I've seen (which I'm sure would be a lot of work, but the payoff to a fan would be worth the effort and I'm sure it would be popular). However going by what I've been able to find there aren't enough resources out there now for a DB(Z) game like this.

Now I know using Rips form games like Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure and Dragon Ball Z Attack of the Saiyans would be bad, and I understand why (copyrighted material and all), even though those sprites would be perfect for all things Dragon Ball and beginning of Z. Hell, my idea was to go ahead and do it anyway, since I was planning to buy the albums (Bruce Falconer's score is available for purchase, instawin) and settle for just not distributing it, at all. Because, hey, if nobody wants to make a good DBZ game then why shouldn't I use their resources to do it myself, even if I have to keep it to myself.

I guess the only options I have if I want to distribute (which I do, making the game just to play it by myself seems like a waste) is to either partner up with someone or a group of someones who can make the sprites and animations for me or to try myself which given my limited artistic abilities, and the fact that it would undoubtedly be a considerable long-term investment, if I want the hardware to properly 'draw' sprites with. I'd love to make a series that covers it all from Grandpa Gohan living with young Goku to the battle with Buu and beyond, but all the sprites for all the character and all the enemies have to be done. That is a daunting task.

Is it biting off more than I can chew? I don't have experience with this new system or the community that supports it.

Welcome, first.

Second. Yes, it is a daunting task you want. Me, too, wished to make a DBZ game, even if using ripped material to quicken the development. But then I thought: Why I want to make such game? This was the thriving question. I just wished to unite both things I love(d since my childhood): DragonBall and RPG. In my childhood all I had was the SNES game of DBZ, and really enjoyed it. What I wanted was to make other people feel the joy that I had when viewing/playing the DragonBall saga. This is a great motivation to have, and that's why I greet you! It is truly great to want to give the sensation of wonder to people, so they can experience it for themselves. But it is truly a humongous task, already done by others, in official games.

But to make great things you must first think great. What I can tell you is: Do it as a second or third project, a hobby to your first project, where you go to release stress from your primary project. And good luck.

This forum is for discussing general principles of game making which could apply to several games, not for asking only about a specific game.

I strongly urge you to get to grips with the basics of the engine before starting a large and complex game.  You will save a lot of time and frustration in the long run.  Start with Andar's excellent compilation of info that all new users need.  Although it was originally done for Ace, almost all of it is applicable to MV  There is also his blog of tutorials and tips.

As this is not the right forum, if you want feedback on your ideas, I suggest you re-formulate them more clearly (e.g. we don't need to know that you thought of rips and then discarded the idea) and post specific "How to...?" questions in the appropriate forum.  Both MV and Resources have support forums.

I am closing this thread.

Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
