4 will always be my favorite, but its more because of nostalgia than actually thinking its the best GAME of the bunch. I played 1-4 as they came out on the NES, and liked them all, but 4 was the game that made RPGs my favorite genre.
The same for me as well, but primarily because of how hard 4 pushed through the NES limitations in story, gameplay, and resources. It was 8-bit at its finest.

Oh definitely. There is no game of that generation that compares personally to me.

Also, that is something about DQIX that I really liked: There WAS a postgame.
yeah, that's a good thing... which brings me, I didn't actually finished 8 because my CD had an error which made the last part unplayable...

I used to listen to the Doors when playing Dragon Warrior (Quest) III back in the day. I mostly would listen to the Doors Soft Parade album. When ever I hear a Doors song from the Soft Parade album I always think of Dragon Warrior III. Same thing with the original Final Fantasy and Soundgarden's Superunknown album. :D

I recreated an island from one of the Dragon Warrior (Quest) games. Can you guess which game it's from?

yeesh, ive played all of them (US versions) starting with good ol "dragon warrior"

in fact, in-manual and walkthrough art of that original NES classic influenced me greatly, really made me think of that art instead of the what i was seeing on screen, (although back then those 8-bit graphics were WORLDS better than the Atari 2600!!!!)

and dragon quest/warrior games jut got better and better!!! bigger worlds, more friends to take with you, great characters always, great art styles...

a few cool enemies always came back throughout the series, like in FF games you have chocobos and mogs, in DQ games you get slimes and trolls and drackys and skeletons etc etc

and....

METAL SLIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what like 200 xp each????

heck yeah!!!!! i hunted those things like nobody's business.

i loved em all!

You got it!

I copied some Dragon Warrior maps to practice my basic mapping skills. And, I like the old Dragon Warrior maps. It was fun to do.

The HOURS I spent HUNTING those Metal Slimes like a starving monster! xD It's no wonder my art style is influenced by Akira Toriyama~ (And that I have a game DQ - esque~)

Hmm Dragon Quest, that is something I would like to say I'll never return to. Mostly because I am fairly certain I wasted at least a month of my life hunting Metal Slimes, getting money, synthesizing, being OCD about every little thing Post Game and Lvl 100 Characters, etc.

I played 4, 5 , 6 (All DS Remakes), 8, and 9. I can say for certain that Dragon Quest is quite good at making a story. Its Battle System and Class System has also become quite admiral as well and I can say that in the future if I see Dragon Quest 10 or 11 or so on for the 3DS for PS4 Chances are I am going to get it anyway because while I would rather not waste more of my life, I am quite addicted to the games.

The things I would combine in those games that made them great were these things: The Classing System in Dragon Quest 6 Because I liked how in that one you got to keep ALL the skills you learned in said class. In DQ 9 I believe you only got to keep Focus/Faith skills etc. and weapon skills. I found the Marriage feature in DQ5 quite enjoyable because it gave the game replay value playing with all the different wives.

I liked the Town development from DQ4 quite a bit because it was something that was always fun to do. I would combine the Graphics of DQ 8 because well they were wonderful graphics, and I didn't quite enjoy the chibi-ness from DQ9 Although that was probably because it was on the DS. Lastly the entire Battle System of DQ9 I would keep because everything about it was pretty awesome. The Combo to deal more damage, the way everyone seemed to move around, and of course the unique skills that game had to offer (Granted the skills have stayed pretty much the same throughout the series.)

I have yet to beat Estark a second time after I beat him once I screamed with joy, and then cried myself to sleep. I still need to beat DQ6 as well, I keep just not doing that I mean its not that I don't like the game its just that I end up putting it down for a month and when I get back to it I feel like I have to start over because it feels like I am just starting in the middle.

What's a necropost?

Nevermind. I just googled it.

And, yeah, that's the name of the island.

I like DQ, moreso than Final Fantasy. Because the heroes are mute, I am free to not complain the characters are too angsty. In fact, when things get too dark, I just imagine them being that determined and brave. It's a magic I couldn't experience from FF. Beside, why refusing Akira Toriyama's arts?

I played 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and a bit of 9, and I like them in general. Grinding is a bit annoying, both modern remakes makes them pretty optional. 5 is my favorite of the series. You get to play a guy who grow up from a small kid, get married and have beautiful children. Bianca's always my wife, and Parry is probably my favorite kid character in any RPGs I have ever played.

I'm not sure, but I believe you just made the cutoff time before it would be a necropost, Solo. By only about 18 hours!

Aliahan is a strange place, as the rest of DQ3's overworld is based loosely off OUR world. Lancel is in Australia, Soo is based on the Sioux, North America, Eginbear is Edinburgh, Scotland (Europe). Jipang is based on Japan (Asia), Isis is supposed to be Egypt (Africa), but is a bit too far west, and finally Samanao is based off Brazil, South America. The New Town is around where New York would be, too. The Appalachians extend to Florida in DQ3.

There's a pretty good shrine on Baffin Island with Metal Slimes living there, and the Lair of the Dragon Queen is apparently in Siberia. With Liamland representing Antarctica and Greenlad representing Greenland, Aliahan can either be Atlantis or Mu/Lemuria. I'll leave the underworld a surprise ;) It involves the Necrogond, supposed to represent the deepest, darkest part of Africa. Necro = dead, Gond = Gondawana, the early African supercontinent.

Dragon Quest VIII is my favorite DQ, followed by V and III. My least favorites are Dragon Quest VI (DS) and II (NES). That doesn't mean any of them are bad, though. Dragon Warrior II is probably the closest this series has come to Atlus-level difficulty. There is a hard-type of Dragon Quest III available at Insane Difficulty.

A hard-type of Dragon Quest III!!!!! OH MY GAAAWD!!! That sounds amazing. I LOVE difficult oldschool RPG's. I love the Etrian Odyssey games for being super hard and for being level grinders. I MUST play this!!!

So I've been playing Dragon Warrior 3 Hard-type and it's really, really, really hard! It's so difficult that it kind of isn't enjoyable. I've never had my characters killed in battle this many times before. I'll keep playing it, though.

I love the Etrian Odyssey games for their difficulty and basic, retro nature. I've never played Phantasy Star 2. I'll have to check it out. This Dragon Warrior 3 Hard-type is just brutal! The boss battles are insanely difficult. I constantly have to level grind to boost my stats just to survive a dungeon. It's a bit boring but I'll play it till the end.

I started playing the DW games when DW 1 first me out, 2 was awesome, 3 was epic, the original DQ 5 sucked(the remake for the DS is awesome though, DQ 6 is epic(the remake sucks though, so just use a translated rom of the original), DW 7 is the best game in the main series, and DQ 8 is a utter POS(and everyone involved in the development of such, should be executed). DWM 1 was awesome, DWM 2 is still the best monster capture/training game ever made, and the Torneko games were awesome as well.

I haven'y played 9 yet, because I'm too scared to, 8 was a POS, DQM Joker is the worst game ever created, and the game that was originally meant to be released as DQ 9, wasn't even a RPG(It's the FF series all over again, except at a much faster pace to ruin), so there's a lot to be scared of.

Everything Square touches gets ruined.

When I was getting an NES online I was thinking about getting Dragon Warriors, but I ended up getting the first Final Fantasy instead cause it was cheaper... Maybe I should get to this soon.

I love me some Dragon Quest/Warrior! My first game was DQ8. As late to the party as I was I've 100% Completed 4-9 and I'm still working on DQ10. I remember the only reason I even picked up 8 was because the cover said the art design was from Akira Toriyama. As was a huge DBZ fan back then so this grabbed me instanly. BEST. DECISION. EVER. Now I'm just trying o get legit copies of 1-3, but then I remember that Wii version and my little heart can't hope, but hold and see if they'll ever make an english translation. Of course I know this will never happened, but I just can't let go of the idea.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
