Wanted to try this rpg maker game out since it looked nice, however...
The error of "The RPG Maker 2003 Runtime Package is not present or not registered" appears.
The author says "*The game SHOULD work without the RTP installed, if it doesn't you'll have to install the 2k3 RTP for now. "

So I decide to install the RTP from here http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/additional/run-time-packages
Then pick 2003 and download it.
I download then extract it and nothing happens. Then I run the installer.
The same error of "The RPG Maker 2003 Runtime Package is not present or not registered appears." appears.
This happens even if I install it with the game itself which I tried last.
Am I installing this incorrectly? Is version RTP 1.10a which the site itself gives not current enough?

Hi DQ13235 ❤,

I think I know what the problem is, as I've been converting rpgmaker2000/2003 games for a couple of months now, under the new archive thread at rpgmaker.net.

The Issue is probably with the Full RTP package flag not being marked down in the ini. file or RTP not being properly installed.

(it sounds like it's most likely the first one by the sounds of it.)

If you haven't found a solution till then, I'll take a look at this as soon as possible, first thing tomorrow morning and maybe even provide you a fixed download to the game in question.

Please sit tight until then.

There is an other possibility:
If that game was made with the pirated version of RM2k3, then it's developer need to buy the legal version and convert it with the new editor before it can use the new and legal RTP installer you got from this site.

...I've tried downloading the game, but I can't seem to extract it through winrar. I'll see if I can get in touch with Ljink. I know the guy, I beta tested one of his games in the past - He's pretty cool.

If you guys can upload a copy of the game off of googledrive, or something, so I take a closer look at it, Let me know. Until then, I'm gonna try and find a way to extract it properly.

Game is far too big for me to try to upload it uncompressed. I can give the .rar from dropbox though

Hi all,

This is Ljink, the developer of Dragon Quest +. I did indeed use the circulated/pirated version of RPG Maker 2003 to develop the game. If I need to purchase the new release to make sure things are working out, I'll do that. I'm working with LordBlueRouge to get the issues ironed out in the meantime. If you need anything please don't hesitate to PM me, I'll most likely respond the same day.

Once the issues are figured out, I'll be uploading the newest version with the time limit removed so you can finish the game if you wish.

Thanks for taking interest in Dragon Quest +.

@Ljink Yes, you do need to purchase the legal version, as soon as possible.

The only thing I'm worried about is how it will handle patches. Dragon Quest +'s development has been made possible because of patches. Will the exe support the patches? I use a picture patch, showing/moving pics while text is being shown, a custom saving system, and the game doesn't use the title screen. All of this, ironically, is for the sake of authenticity to the Dragon Quest series. If the legal version is compatible (the RPG2003.exe) is compatible with the patches I'll have no issue using the newest version to continue to build the game.

The only way to answer that question is - you have to try it. I know that there have been a lot of games made with the circulated version which have successfully moved to the legal version, so there is at least a reasonable hope that yours will also make the move okay.

Understood. Welp, here goes nothing then, I'll come back when I have results. Fingers crossed.

one last update
: Ljink updated the download, with the suggested changes: (adding Harmony.dll and FullPackageFlag, I think)
(I'll add the proper RPG_RT.ini file in a sec UPDATE: here it is(replace the RPG_RT.ini file with this)
he also converted it to a zip file, so i was able to extract it properly now:

I then ran this on my Windows Me computer, and Windows 7 computer without rpgmaker2003 installed. As well as Windows XP - the game seems to run okay now without asking "The RPG Maker 2003 Runtime Package is not present or not registered appears."

But ya, DQ13235, please let us know if this resolved the intial issue. As for bugs regarding the game itself, make sure to leave comments on Ljink's development blog: https://rpgmaker.net/games/4058/blog/19608/ It's the fastest way for Ljink to resolve the issue etc.

But yeah, I apologize for taking so long to resolve this issue! I hoped this helped DQ13235!

As a sidenote: I gotta say, from what I played so far, Ljink, bugs aside, this is actually a really impressive remake of dragon quest 1 in rpgmaker2003! Please keep us posted on further developments!

Yup, and I'm about to update it again, and put it on the site. With most if not all the issues solved. @DQ13235 I haven't been able to replicate the black screens though, walked back and forth into the loading zones multiple times and got nothing. Just gonna fix up a few things and it'll be on its way.

And @LordBlueRouge thanks, I really want to make this a special Dragon Quest game for 2k3 as it never really got any love on the engine.

Okay, I'll be converting the game to the legit version so it'll minimize the issues. Hopefully things will run okay. Later!

If anyone is having issues running the game by having direct Draw Errors.

Right click RPG_RT.exe
Go to properties.
Go to the Compatibility tab.
Run this program in compatibility mode for (Windows 7)
Hit apply then okay. The solution was pretty simple as said and done.
But I'll see if this causes any other problems down the line.

I always use this method when this error happens to me.
Never encountered problems.
The only difference is that I add, run as administrator.

Heh, heh. I've been experimenting with a naughty word detector Common Event and using scripts to check certain strings. I never thought I would see such language in computer code. I would post a screen shot, but it probably wouldn't be appropriate, even with a Spoiler. But it certainly makes me laugh and it works great.
