Hello everyone. The Dread Islands team is looking for people to help us with our current project.

You can the info about the game here :

http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/40898-the-dread-islands/

Positions

Audio : Closed

Dialogue / Story / Characters : Closed

Drawings / Parallax arts : Open

Eventing : Closed

Mapping : Closed

Pixel arts : Open

Playtest : Closed

Requirements

Be at least 18 years old; we've had bad experiences and everyone under 20 that joined our team has been unreliable, unfortunately;

Able to put some time on the game, at least 3 hours a week;

Not offended by criticism/feedback, it's something that we do, sometimes we have to start segments over;

Not scared of big documents, we try to detail eeeeeverything so there are as little mistakes as possible when we delegate work to each other;

Able to work in a team, because we are a team!

Have at least a bit of experience (like if you've had RPG Maker for a whole 2 days, maybe eventing is going to be too hard).

About us

At the moment, we are a small team of 5, and are looking to increase our numbers. We are all passionate about video games, and some of us want to work in the industry.

I am myself starting classes in programming and game design in september. I've been designing tabletop RPG stories for about 12 years. So far, the team has been getting along pretty well, we're all motivated and have been since the start (about 2 months now, I believe?). The current team, so far, is willing to cooperate on projects beyond the Dread Islands, and we're going to move on to other games once this one is done.

What's in it for you?

Dread Islands is free and non-commercial, so unfortunately there's no money in it for you. :( Yes we're all broke.

In short, credits and fun.

You'll be credited for your work, of course, and if you're looking to be part of a team, looking to improve your art, or if you're just passionate about one of the aspects of creating a game, then you may have a spot here with us. Also if you want and if we don't hate each other (But you'll get lots of love from me cause pls help!) you can stay with the team on future projects. Like I mentionned before, we're going to move to commercial games (and then we're moving to unity eventually, but details, who needs 'em?) so hey who knows you may have a job in a year or so!

Of course this is completely optional. We're not getting married or anything, so you don't have to commit to anything. Even if you're just bored for a month and feel like helping, we'll take it.

Contact how, sir?

Well first I'll ask that you leave a reply here, just so it bumps the thread. But I like to talk in private.

You can either reach me in PM here, on the forums, but if you want a quick reply...

No hard feelings, I figured it was something like that, but that's also why I'm setting a minimum age req! You're not the first, and I feel like most people who aren't adults yet are going to be too busy with school or something. Thanks for the free bump though XD

What is your definition on the standby status of your mapper? I don't have any examples of maps except this one I made recently of a desert camp, and it's interiors which I think some of those buildings could be better sense I did a couple of the interior maps at like 1am. If not, I can do events or even just play test for bugs if you'd like?

Hey Drake! Not bad on the maps!

Standby basically means... "uhhh, wait a sec I'll check".

In short, I'd like to wait for a few days before deciding whether or not we need more. We've increased production on the dialogue/story/eventing side of the story (by allocating more hours and just being better and more effective at it) so we may need one soon, if our current mapper can't keep up. So I'll keep your name right here for sure, and hit you up about that pretty soon.

I would certainly be interested to have you as a playtester though, and also depending on your experience as an eventer, I could use your help.

Contact me via Skype or facebook and we can discuss the details! :)

I would like to help play test your game. When I was in school I was in charge of play testing the game we worked on.

Setting a minimum age requirement is a REALLY bad idea in my opinion....  Just so you know, there are some people under 18 who could probably map/script/draw CIRCLES around you or your team.. *ahem*

Anyway. When you say audio do you mean JUST music? Or...?

And as someone who's interested, how do we know your project won't fizzle out? I've seen many team projects just up and die. :(

When setting up a team, it's good to not just expect us to show you what WE can do, but YOU need to show too what YOU can do. ;)

StarkinGyra : Good! The way you can proceed as a tester, you can either play every single major release as we post them on the forums; in that case you wouldn't have to do find most of the bug. You could just play through the game every 2 weeks or so and leave a comment on this post here : http://forums.rpgmak...-dread-islands/. However, if you want to take a more active role, you can contact me on Skype, facebook or e-mail (although Skype is prefered for live chat, and that's where the team is at!) and I would have you play through pretty much every modification that warrants testing. Whatever option is completely up to you! But for now, even if we're not in contact yet, feel free to download the game and try it out, there may be a few bugs left, and we sure need the feedback :) As well, if you do, don't hesitate to leave a comment on the other thread to bump it.

Iron Croc : I know the minimum age sucks but it's kind of necessary, you wouldn't believe how many young people that dropped out because they either A) lacked time or B) got intimidated because I try to run things profesionally with documentation, deadlines and such; we're trying to be as effective as possible and to some it may look like it's a job.

Back on the subject, though. Audio means mostly music; and I've seen you're a musician on your profile, so certainly that would help, if you believe you can compose for the survival apocalypse zombie genre, and if you want to of course!

However, my other audio guy (who is busy in real life and can't do everything by himself) also helps with sound effects, something I'm sure he'd be glad he had help with. That part may be easier and simpler, but you can either record the sound effects, or find them on the internet as long as they're not copyrighted. The way you do it is up to you.

At any rate, contact me via Skype, Facebook or email (Skype pref) if you want to join the team, I'd certainly be interested to have you with us!

Also just a heads up, we use Skype for live chat, as in text. We don't really do voice chat.
Just thought I'd tell you two.

Hope to hear from you guys soon!

edit

Forgot about the part where you said "And as someone who's interested, how do we know your project won't fizzle out? I've seen many team projects just up and die."

In short : There's absolutely no way for me to prove it to you, but you can take my word for it : it won't. There's too many people involved, and this is my (soon to be) career; It's a must for me, and even if RPG Maker doesn't really require programming and isn't very complex (then again everyone who sees my events usually shys out from eventing >_> ), it's going to be good for me to finish it. It's going to help me learn about game dev, no matter how good or bad it ends up being (hopefully good!) and it's going to be part of my portfolio. Either if I end up working for someone else, or used as credentials for future projects to either get investments, kickstarters, or just having people join a team on a bigger project. I mean heck I've started learning Ruby for this project and the one we have planned after, so no way this is going to fail.

As for what we can do, I'd say try out the game and see for yourself! If you want to see how serious I am, add me on Skype and I'll show you the documents we've created. You'll understand :)

The game is going to take more than the summer to complete.

I'd rather not have this thread turned into a debate about whether or not it's wrong to only take people above 18. I have my reasons and unless a teen can prove to me that he/she isn't going to drop after the first few days, this isn't going to change.

Thanks for the bump, though :)

So, the game seems really good so far. There are some things I've noticed tho while playing. One of the building in the area (once you get to Dread Island) does not seem to have an animation for the door while the others open. When I went to the Church of Nasga'Tosh, I was freaking climbing all of the furniture and walls, and I was walking over tables. Other than that so far from what I've played, it seems like a really good game.

Thank you for the report. I'll be sure to check out for the door of the building on the actual island.

As for the church of Nasga'Tosh, yes, this area is unfinished. I think I meant to make the door "locked" for this version, but forgot about it. Next update in a few weeks. If you find anything else that seems out of place, or if you have any advice (stuff you like/dislike), feel free to tell us about it! And thank you again! :)

Ok, if you would like, I like making maps and I have played around with events type stuff (I would offer help in scripts, but I'm just recently learning it)

Hey, just saying that it's an honor to be a part of this team! The maps are great, along with the blood arts. :) I believe that this project has real potential, and am looking forward to possibly staying with your team, wherever you go! (In a non-creepy way)

And I'm glad to have you on the team as well! You did a very good job so far!

Also, I'm going to bump this a bit. We're opening a spot for someone that can work the story, characters, general atmosphere and dialogue. That person will also have to work with our other two that are already going that. They're going to need a hand though, being busy with real life and the amount of content that needs to be created. I know there are a lot of story tellers here on this forum, so don't be shy :D

Hey, imonacloud! Could you send me a few screenshots of maps you've created before? Thanks!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
