"Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it, those who remember it have a responsibility to prevent it."
₪₪ STORY ₪₪
In the time before recorded history, Gaia was of one people. Time progressed as it should have. The people of Gaia went from crude spears, to iron swords, to explosives and gun-powder, leading all the way up to thermo-nuclear weapons and energy-packed laser pistols. Their natural progression was a destructive one. The people of Gaia were good at one thing: killing each other. They had long since turned away from the Sun God, casting their planet into a murky darkness that lasted forevermore. Their planet was on the border of being completely destroyed. It was only due to the effort of a handful of scientists still devout to the Sun God that set in motion events that would forever change Gaia.
A time machine. Once only thought to be a thing of fantasy, these scientists created what was once thought impossible. Their plan was simple. Travel back in time and prevent the creation of the weapons that have caused the destruction of their world. They did so, and they were successful. They called themselves the Blessed Few, and they preached against the evils of science and technological advancement. Their world was, as it seemed, saved.
Now because they never turned away from the Sun God, the people of Gaia were rewarded for their devotion. The Sun God created himself a companion, the Moon Goddess. The Moon Goddess bestowed upon the people of Gaia a grandiose gift: Magic. A tool to make their lives easier, or simply to have fun. Snow in the summer, rain in the desert. It was a fantastic gift.
But, history is doomed to repeat itself. Magic could be used for good, and it could be used for evil. Gaia set itself on the course of destruction once more. The Blessed Few, who had secluded themselves once they thought their world saved, came back out of hiding and saw what was going on. They pleaded to the Sun God to help them fix their world once more.
The Sun God did so, removing the gift of Magic from Gaia.
The Moon Goddess, however, was not pleased. She enjoyed the gift that she had given Gaia. She begged the Sun God to allow Magic to exist, in small part at the very least. The City of Mageacre was chosen. The Acreites were a peaceful people, never taking part in any of the madness that had overtaken Gaia. They used their magic only for the health and benefit of others.
They were allowed to keep their Magic, at the cost that the rest of Gaia forget they and Magic exists.
Fast forward hundreds of years. The decree to not interact with those without magic was long forgotten, Gaia existed with an uneasy peace between those with Magic in Mageacre. Some countries were green with jealousy, but feared the Acreites and what they could do with their Magic despite the Acreites being a peaceful.
Enter once more the Blessed Few. A Grand High Priest rose through the ranks and took over the covenant. He had a great disdain for Magic, believing those with Magic were evil and that the gift was a gift from Ghenna, the realm of demons. He and his followers revolted against the Acreites, attacking them wherever they were. They went as far as to gather a mass following and attack the city of Mageacre itself. Men, women, children, all fell prey to the zealous hate of the Blessed Few.
A war waged for years. The Acreites simply maintained their defenses, trying their hardest not to kill when they didn't absolutely have to. But one Grand Mage did not believe a non-violent approach would work any longer. He felt he needed to teach the people of Gaia that Magic was not to be trifled with.
Utilizing Magic that was forbidden, the Grand Mage summoned a demon from the darkest pits of Ghenna. A demon with no name. He thought he could control it, but unleashed instead a great evil loose in Mageacre. It was only with the efforts of Nathanael Veneficus and a small number of Swordsages that the demon was pushed back and imprisoned in the strange place they called the Nexus. A place of metal, burning lights, and portals to many places on Gaia. It contained within it a strange prison as well that nullified magic and was immune to the blows of steel. A cage of light.
They imprisoned the demon there.
Nathanael became the new Lord Magus having saved his people from destruction. Reaching out to the Moon Goddess, Nathanael begged for a reprieve from the madness. His wish was granted. The Moon Goddess lifted the city of Mageacre from the solid earth high into the sky above the clouds where none could see it.
But evil never stays dormant. Evil never stops.
