"Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it, those who remember it have a responsibility to prevent it."

In the time before recorded history, Gaia was of one people. Time progressed as it should have. The people of Gaia went from crude spears, to iron swords, to explosives and gun-powder, leading all the way up to thermo-nuclear weapons and energy-packed laser pistols. Their natural progression was a destructive one. The people of Gaia were good at one thing: killing each other.

They had long since turned away from the Sun God, casting their planet into a murky darkness that lasted forevermore. Their planet was on the border of being completely destroyed. It was only due to the effort of a handful of scientists still devout to the Sun God that set in motion events that would forever change Gaia.

A time machine. Once only thought to be a thing of fantasy, these scientists created what was once thought impossible. Their plan was simple. Travel back in time and prevent the creation of the weapons that have caused the destruction of their world. They did so, and they were successful. They called themselves the Blessed Few, and they preached against the evils of science and technological advancement. Their world was, as it seemed, saved.

Now because they never turned away from the Sun God, the people of Gaia were rewarded for their devotion. The Sun God created himself a companion, the Moon Goddess. The Moon Goddess bestowed upon the people of Gaia a grandiose gift: Magic. A tool to make their lives easier, or simply to have fun. Snow in the summer, rain in the desert. It was a fantastic gift.

But, history is doomed to repeat itself. Magic could be used for good, and it could be used for evil. Gaia set itself on the course of destruction once more. The Blessed Few, who had secluded themselves once they thought their world saved, came back out of hiding and saw what was going on. They pleaded to the Sun God to help them fix their world once more.

The Sun God did so, removing the gift of Magic from Gaia.

The Moon Goddess, however, was not pleased. She enjoyed the gift that she had given Gaia. She begged the Sun God to allow Magic to exist, in small part at the very least. The City of Mageacre was chosen. The Acreites were a peaceful people, never taking part in any of the madness that had overtaken Gaia. They used their magic only for the health and benefit of others.

They were allowed to keep their Magic, at the cost that the rest of Gaia forget they and Magic exists.

Fast forward hundreds of years. The decree to not interact with those without magic was long forgotten, Gaia existed with an uneasy peace between those with Magic in Mageacre. Some countries were green with jealousy, but feared the Acreites and what they could do with their Magic despite the Acreites being a peaceful.

Enter once more the Blessed Few. A Grand High Priest rose through the ranks and took over the covenant. He had a great disdain for Magic, believing those with Magic were evil and that the gift was a gift from Ghenna, the realm of demons. He and his followers revolted against the Acreites, attacking them wherever they were. They went as far as to gather a mass following and attack the city of Mageacre itself. Men, women, children, all fell prey to the zealous hate of the Blessed Few.

A war waged for years. The Acreites simply maintained their defenses, trying their hardest not to kill when they didn't absolutely have to. But one Grand Mage did not believe a non-violent approach would work any longer. He felt he needed to teach the people of Gaia that Magic was not to be trifled with.

Utilizing Magic that was forbidden, the Grand Mage summoned a demon from the darkest pits of Ghenna. A demon with no name. He thought he could control it, but unleashed instead a great evil loose in Mageacre. It was only with the efforts of Nathanael Veneficus and a small number of Swordsages that the demon was pushed back and imprisoned in the strange place they called the Nexus. A place of metal, burning lights, and portals to many places on Gaia. It contained within it a strange prison as well that nullified magic and was immune to the blows of steel. A cage of light.

They imprisoned the demon there.

Nathanael became the new Lord Magus having saved his people from destruction. Reaching out to the Moon Goddess, Nathanael begged for a reprieve from the madness. His wish was granted. The Moon Goddess lifted the city of Mageacre from the solid earth high into the sky above the clouds where none could see it.

But evil never stays dormant. Evil never stops.

  • Customized Yanfly Battle Engine Ace
  • Weapons and armor that grow with the character.
  • Engaging story-line with unexpected twists, non-linear gameplay.
  • Choose what skills and abilities to take into battle, no more tabbing through 3 pages of skills you don't use anymore.
  • Learn basic abilities through leveling, learn others through equipment and consumables.

Little Tibidits JUST from screenshots:

1. Why is the first character like, hugging the wall in battle and why are the enemies so low compared to him.

2. Only some commands have icons looks weird to me.

3. Nathanealnaneal Veneficus. I don't know how to pronouce/spell that name.

4. Please change those BIG @SS GREEN AND BLUE MP BARS. Everyone uses it, they look nasty it' just a big turn off for me.

Besides those little tibits which are just annoying to me, it looks/seems promising.

1.) I've adjusted the positions and default screen size a half dozen times. Every time I make an adjustment to the screens or battlebacks, I have to adjust their positions. Currently their positions are in a much more visually appealing spot. I have also lowered the number of active players in battle to 3, though this is subject to change. Still working on some balancing issues.

2.) All the skills will have icons, still trying to decide how I want the skill system to be set up. Recent changes have condensed Magic into one all inclusive skill list. Decided not to make a difference between various Magic as to who can cast what. Gives the player a little more ability to choose who they want in their party instead of making sure they have a Black Magic caster and White Magic caster at all times since that would lock in 2 characters pretty much permanently in the party.

3.) I've added the pronunciations to the character's names. It's not as hard to say as it looks. If I am able to get some voices in here, people will hear how they are said.

4.) That's pretty much the default YEA Battle Engine up there, I've made 5 revisions since then. Even the entire basic menu system has been completely redone at this point. I will update the thread with new screenshots once I get a few pixels lined up that are irritating me.

Looks good to me so far. Good luck with your project. That monster battler caught my eye right away. It looks really good. Can I ask where you take them from if you don't mind? I would like to check the rest if there are more in that style.

They are from Milano Cat I believe. There are over 100 battlers in that style. There are even a few animated ones customized by someone on this forum.

After a couple variations, I believe I have settled on a basic layout for the battle scene. I plan on a couple add-on scripts to make the battle scene more dynamic (possibly utilizing a Tide of Battle Script and a Turn Counter) but otherwise I think it's golden. The picture I had in my head for the battle scene is a fleeting dream at this point (2 weeks till my son pops out kicking and screaming), but I hope to have a fully customized battle system for the sequel (or prequel?) if the finished product ends up being well received.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
