    Inspired by the pixel art style of the SNES/PS1 era, ECHORIA: Ancient Echoes is a new and immersive story-based RPG by Adam Waind.

    Average game completion time 6-18 hours.

    Play as Aldus, a hunter from the snowy Borra Village who finds his life mundane and tedious. He wants nothing more than to challenge his mind and discover his latent talent for leadership. When a routine hunting trip goes awry, his life changes forever.

    Swept along by the motives of others, Aldus must adapt to his ever changing surroundings.

    Who can he trust? Who will he become?

    The answers lie within the journey to discover the Ancients!

    UPDATE!

    Thanks everyone for the feedback regarding the first demo!

    Here is a list of changes/fixes that are implemented in demo v2:

    1. Font Overhaul
    The font has been changed to be more readable . While the old font looked better, deep research and critical feedback and has swayed me into deciding to prioritize accessibility. For a game based on immersion, I want to maintain that immersion, as well as have as many people as possible be able to enjoy the game.

    2. Interactive Tutorial
    The original tutorial was just a bunch of scrolls that dumped information on the player. I felt this was an incorrect approach , so I corrected this by making an interactive tutorial for battle. This should be much more fluid and intuitive for players to learn while actually performing the actions and seeing the results (It's also skippable).

    3. Bug Fixes/Additional Changes
    • difficulty system has been redone to avoid errors and provide more flexibility
    • the game no longer starts in fullscreen mode
    • exit option added to title screen
    • save points have been moved/added
    • if you fail the first snowball puzzles a certain number of times, the snowballs now melt (this means you have free passage, but lose the potential to earn the associated rewards)
    • several other small fixes

    With the release of the 2nd (and final) version of the demo, it's onto finishing the cut-scenes, credits and prep for the commercial release on steam (official trailer coming soon)!

    Hey guys! Quick update:

    Unfortunately, the game will be delayed a little bit. It should release somewhere around the end of October (I'll have an exact date soon.)
    It was my mistake, I had forgotten about the steam review process and was unaware that they added a 2 week waiting period.

    In the mean time, within the next few days I will release demo 2.1 over on itch.io, which has some small fixes that were already addressed in the final version. A small bump in the road, but in the end it will be fine.

    This game looks pretty cool! Love the art style and the screens, though the story didn't quite grab me (you might want to work on the blurb as there isn't much there to get me excited for the story--it's quite vague!).

    I've downloaded the demo. I'll try it out and let you know my initial thoughts!

    I managed to try this game out.

    Its pretty good! The custom graphics are good, the game itself plays smoothly, and the music fits the game. It reminds me of a Grandia.

    The only thing I found lacking was that Aldus doesn’t have much character development at the start. It’s not clear why he hates hunting and there’s nothing about him that is likeable or unique. You might want to add some of that at the start.

    Will definitely play some more.

    I’ve wish listed it.

    I’m glad the game is shorter in length. Indie rpg maker games that boast 60+ hours of gameplay is a negative for me, not a positive!

    Fixes:
    -fixed collision in Frigid Pass Cave
    -fixed issue causing the 2nd snowball puzzle to bug when trying to extinguish the fire with a snowball, making the secret item unobtainable
    (this was broken when I made the snowballs melt if you failed the puzzle too many times)
    -adjusted various enemy stats and the hero exp. growth tree

    As stated before, these issues were already addressed in the final version of the game.
    If you haven't tried the demo yet, now is the perfect time!

    I agree! I'm also considering the speedrunning community. Super-long games don't do too well for players or watchers!

    This looks very professional. It's my first time seeing an RPG Maker game with this kind of excellent level of pixel art artstyle. You have delivered your design concisely, uniquely and beautifully. It's like it was made by Suikoden devs or even Square Enix. I had the Tales of Drunken Paladin vibe from Aldus, haha.
