Efebark's Online Database Not Working

Hey.I need to ask here,because I cannot report in the actual topic.


I always used to laugh at all these people who wanted MMOs on RPG Maker VX Ace (I didn't post anything on the pages of it though).The thought made me laugh.


But one day I found an online database script from Efebark.A lot of people seemed to like it and they used it so I know it worked.I really couldn't believe it!So I quickly downloaded it.


But when I try to register,nothing works.Not even gibberish!I am PRETTY sure nobody has taken these usernames.


I did find a better version called the ASO Engine or ASOE with "many bug fixes" but I had the same problem.Again,I couldn't reply to the topic.Also,I used the project as a base,as   the owner of ASOE said in a reply to somebody and I think Efebark would agree.


I really want to use this script.I used to think the idea was stupid but now that I see it,I want to try it out.I am trying to make an MMO with Unity but RPG Maker would be easier as it fits the style of gameplay I like and with Unity I have had a lot of failed attempts and nobody really wants to help me out on the game.Infact,I am giving up on the project.


So,could you please tell me how to fix it?Thank you.


Also,I did see in one post of the page for it that you need the decompiled edition of the script not the opened edition but its not available.So any ways to fix this would be very much appreciated.Thanks.

Do you have a web server to store the data? You have to point to a working server that you'll need to run 24/7 with Windows Server or Linux Server with SQL and other things.

I don't know.How do I get a good server to store the SQL and PHP data?

Well, there are two ways:


Rent a server with PHP and SQL support, or make your own with an Ubuntu Server and download the PHP and an SQL Server (say, MySQL) (although you need to register the server with a domain).

WAMP would be a better thing to download than doing everything individually. its much more newb friendly and takes 5 minutes to set everything up in one completely package - instead of downloading each one manually and struggling to install it.


Edit:


When you running the server on your local machine, you dont have to have it connected to an ip address, you can use the 'localhost' as the web address and it will connect to the server running on the local machine. (use either 'localhost' or 192.168.0.1 as the web host address)

Ah...I see now.I totally forgot that I had to get an SQL server.

Oh and Ace,Wamp seems good but if it fails then how do you register the server with a domain?

you (as a private person) can't register domains directly, that can only be done by an official registrar company.


Usually most hosters (who rent servers to you) do this, and a lot of them also allow you to register a domain without renting one of their servers - usually for a minimal fee (I pay about 15$ a month for a package that not only contains a good part of a shared server with unlimited traffic included but also allowed me to register ten domains plus subdomains)

Assuming that you got the server running and the game's ready, visit a domain registration service (eg. Namecheap) and register the domain (you'll have to pay a monthly fee for that though).


(If you can't get WAMP working, you may have to build the system from scratch)


Just a warning though: You must not use the game server as your everyday computer. You'll be putting everybody's data in risk. Only log in to the server if you need to do something (maintenance for example).

I can't access the WAMP site, but I think I found a mirror that had an executable file:

I guess the "Follow the on screen instructions" is the only thing I can say. I'll try to poke it open and see if there's something special.

Ace helped me on Skype to get it all done.All the steps and he gave me Xammp to do it.Yet somehow,it will not work properly.

Hi, sorry to butt in, but can I just strongly advise against using such a script?


In order to use a database in RPG Maker VX Ace, unless there is a server side script you talk to first, you will have to either:


1. Have your database open to anybody to edit as they wish


2. Store your password in the game


There is no secure way of storing your password in your game so either way you open yourself up for attacks and it renders the database useless.


A solution is to do the database handling on the server, perhaps with PHP, and then the game connects to the PHP script, and not the database. The PHP script connects to the database and handles that side of things.


I would never, ever, use an internal MySQL script for RPG maker, or indeed any game engine that runs client side. It is really not secure.

if it's a learning project then disregard this reply, but else I think it's a bad idea to work on an MMORPG if you don't know anything about Wamp, sql of php.

I know it sounds stupid but when I discovered the MMO,I promised I would make one with a story I had in my head for a long time when I found out how.


I know making an MMO on this is stupid but I am going to try.And I will try to learn.


I can go on Unity and do there again but that'll be in the near future.

So, a quick update on the situation:


The MMO game project that BoredSoul is referring was moved to a different engine (Unity to be exact), as both ASOE and Efeberk's scripts weren't working at all (neither on my side).

I sold the licence of ODS. You can use WAMP to test it as Ace said.


There maybe some little bugs but if you know basic logic of php & mysql, you can fix it.
