The world of Einlanzer has three realms and three gods who rule over each realm. Avalice rules over the sky realm of Canaan and governs the angels who live there. Lanzer has been missing for hundreds of years, but he once governed the realm of Earth and the dwarves who live there. Without their god, the dwarven race is nearing extinction and the godless humans are spreading across all of Earth’s continents. Lastly, Yvalak rules over the seas and the Abyss. There was once a terrible war with Yvalak where he almost conquered Earth and Canaan. The stories of this battle are lost to time and no one knows exactly how Yvalak was pushed back to the Abyss.
In this game, you control a strong young berzerker named Victor. Victor is a member of the Swordbearers, an order of fighers, mages, thieves, etc. The Swordbearers are tasked with guarding the ancient historic sword called the Einlanzer. At the onset of the game, Victor is tasked with being the last line of defense for the Einlanzer. Unknown forces besiege Swordbearer Temple and Victor is not able to keep them from taking the holy relic. Feeling disgraced, Victor sheds his Swordbearer title and, along with many other in his former order, decide to travel the world in an attempt to retrieve the Einlanzer.
If you are a seasoned JRPG or RPG player, expect this game to be a fresh take on the classic style. The battles are interesting (not just press attack over and over until you win like some JRPGS) and the storyline is exciting, unique, full of adventure and exploring, and has a healthy spritz of humor and romance thrown in as well. The items have interesting abilities and you have fun, immersive decisions on how to equip your characters. For example, on the thief, should you equip two sais for added attack evasion and be very dodgey, or equip two kamas for increased critical hit chance and have the chance of dealing massive blows. Or, on your healer, should you equip a magic rod which requires both hands for more magic power, or play it safer with a mace and shield to be more defensive with less magic power? As the game goes on, the way you equip your characters changes battles immensely. It isn’t just about the highest numbers.
Each character is unique from each other in every way. Each has different base statistics, completely different abilities, different equipment types, and unique passive attributes (for example the thief has a 10% chance to act twice in one turn, the mage resists most elemental attacks by 10%, and the archer has a 50% chance to add a status effect called "pinned" which lowers the target's evasion by 25%).
Seasoned RPG players know that some games require you to “grind,” or walk around fighting monsters to get stronger for various amounts of time. Einlanzer is balanced so this is virtually unnecessary. As long as a player goes through the game fighting monsters as they come, they will grow in strength adequately to conquer most challenges. If a player ever truly has trouble with a section, “grinding” is an option, but usually a change in strategy or equipment can surmount the problem. The same is true with the gold system in the game. Most items the player will want from shops can be purchased with the gold earned as they play naturally. Later, there are high-end items that large amounts of gold can be used on for minimal increases if a player desires that level of hard core powering up.
Einlanzer has been extensively play-tested using paid beta-testers. It is a highly polished game.
