(As always, I hope this is the right place to post this. If not, then... oops?)

For my current project, I want to have the main character travel to different element-themed levels to retrieve special artifacts.
However, I don't just want it to be a game of pure dungeon-crawling. And because I have the creativity of a dead chipmunk...

Can anyone help with any ideas for elemental-themed levels/tasks?
[I'm planning to have 5 levels for each of the 4 elements.]

Cheers, all!

I think this is probably more suited to 'Game Mechanics Design'.
However, please be aware that neither this forum nor G.M.D. is for feedback on individual, specific games, though of course you can use your game as an example. Therefore, the discussion could well be about aspects which do not apply to your game, and that's fine. I'm mentioning this because so often people reply along the lines of "Oh, that's not how I want it for my game, as I want the character to..." or something similar.

I am full of ideas, but my only question is: "Name the 4 elements" i don't know which one you plan to use.
(Fire, Ice, Water, Wind, Earth, Thunder, Light, Dark etc,).

I mean, I could try helping to if you'd like. Definitely going to need some more information. Like what Gallia said... which elements? And if you have any kind of story surrounding the elements and how they come to affect the world too.

A worked example; Final Fantasy Mystic Quest has the world divided into the four elements; Fire, Earth, Water, Wind. Each location has (minimum) the following that incorporates it;
Dungeon (Sand for Earth, Ice for Water, Volcano for Fire, Mountain for Wind)
Town (foresty village for Earth, rivers through and under for Water, canyon long ago melted by lava and lights for Fire, city with constant wind making everything flap that can for Wind)
Environment (Desert and Forest for Earth, Snow and lakes for water, giant open areas for Wind)
Problems (Land is dying, Everything is cold, Constant earthquakes, Horrific winds destroying equipment)
Obstacles (Running sand, Slippery slopes, Smog)
But it boils down to four things, each of which are attached to the element; Dungeon, Town, Environment, Problems, Obstacles. Come up with how each element can make those five things and you've got plenty to work with.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
