Hey all, I've been lurking here for about a week reading some RMMV-specific JavaScript threads and I figured I should probably sign up. :wink:

I'm from Ohio, and have been doing web development since I was a teenager. I recently got a new job as a software engineer. (doing development and devops (gross) duties) I've been doing development professionally for about five years now, but I prefer system languages like C and C#/Java. (let's be real, C# is "Microsoft's Java" :rolleyes:)

I messed with RPG Maker XP, I believe, a long time ago, but recently bought MV on Steam after reading you can do things that aren't "point and click". I'm not sure if XP had that feature, but if so I missed it. /shrug

I'm fluent with JavaScript so I hope I can be helpful to some extent on here, and I also hope I can learn more about RMMV-specific development. I found a link to a great resource, on here I believe, and it's helped a lot to jump in to the development side of RMMV. (RPGMakerMV Library)

I hope to help out and be a part of this community!

Welcome to the community! We are proud to have you!
This community is utterly amazing. So many talented scripters and just game developers. Do not be afraid to ask any questions. For the most part, someone will probably know of a solution.

Code:
#include <iostream>

int main () {
std::cout << "Hello! << std::endl;
return 0;
}

I'm studying web development in online courses right now, and this resource is divine. Thank you for sharing it! Also, nice to meet you!

From experience I know that the best teacher is experience - I only took a free Javascript course.

I'm all self-taught, I did go to a college but it wasn't accredited so my degree is laughable, and the instructors didn't even know what they were "teaching". Example: The Linux class instructor didn't know how to navigate the file system in a shell... The way I got in to web languages was literally learning HTML, then CSS, then PHP, then JS. (My development all started as a way to make a custom NeoPets page when I was a kid :guffaw:) I learned these languages from free tutorials at www.w3schools.com . Download a good IDE (I use Visual Studio Code) and try to make some basic HTML pages, you can skip CSS and PHP if you want to get in to JS only I guess... But if you have zero programming experience I recommend starting with HTML just to give you that "foundation" of web programming.

Also, Google is 75% of a developer's job, don't underestimate it. ;)

I even skipped the html part, since I wasn't interested in web development. In RMMV you don't need HTML and CSS knowledge, so I jumped straight into Javascript. I took it easy, played around with some Yanfly plugins before everything clicked in. From time to time I have some fun with C++, although Javascript is my favorite language, since it's the most user-friendly of them. Nodejs allows Javascript to be used even on backend, which helps too. But depending on what you want to do, you may want to choose a different language.

Ah, I hate JS, lol. My "favorite" would be Java or C# (I might have mentioned that in my OP but I don't remember), but my most proficient/experience is PHP. I only started with HTML/CSS because I wanted a sweet page for my NeoPet when I was young. :guffaw: And yeah we use Node where I work for various front end elements (customer-related charts, advanced AJAX, etc) "User friendly" isn't what I'd call JS really. Maybe because it's untyped? /shrug I'd say .NET is more "user-friendly" simply because the VS IDE is so...easy...lol Very easy to get in to Windows Form development, which helps you learn (at least at a higher level) the Windows API. I'm fluent in JS, it's just super gross. :barf: I only dabble with C++ when messing around with DX/Windows API, and I use C a lot only because I have a huge interest in kernel development. (Android mainly)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
