On the forums we can embed many things. Documents, social media posts, youtube video's, music... It seems like the only thing we can't embed, is our game.

Since HTML games are perfect to embed, like youtube video's, and we easily can show off our games and demos that way, would it be an idea to have us embed our games (from itch.io for example)?

My thoughts about this:
This Forums got a Completed Games Section, you can Link Games there.
And add a whole Presentation Page.

Iam not sure but i guess that else this side could become responsible for the content People upload.
Or do not underestimate the needed size if over a few Years, 10k People start Uploading stuff.
Correct me if iam wrong.

The space the games take is irrelevant for embeds, since they only load on the client side; embedding a youtube video doesn't copy the video over to this site either.

I suppose moderation could be an issue, since a single game can contain quite a lot of content and it's rather difficult to quickly check it. But then again, the same is true for youtube videos.

What might be a big issue is security - allowing people to run arbitrary code on other users' browsers is something I definitely wouldn't want to deal with if I was running the site.

Moderation could be an issue, but how is that different from moderating YouTube videos?

One major difference is that Youtube moderates its own content, so the forum staff doesn't really have to. If a video contains porn or some other highly objectionable content, Youtube will generally deal with it. However, Itch doesn't moderate or limit the content of your game, so then that responsibility would fall on the forum staff. And since a game could be 100+ hours long, and contain hidden/unlockable stuff and such... that would be a difficult task.

Embedding is when something is hosted on a server, but shown on a different website. Like when you upload a video to YouTube, you can add a line of code (iframe) to your website and suddenly the video is shown on your website.

There is many things on YouTube that would be against the rules of the forum. Adult content, politics and Ben Shapiro. :p (not sure if the last one is allowed, but I guess his issues are not welcome here)

The forum staff never replied to this though. Is this something they never saw, or won't even take in consideration?

I implemented this on my forum (somewhat), the difficulty is that every time you update your itch game the embed code changes, so games quickly become detached until they are fixed, which gets frustrating. It does work though.

Works like that when I embed them on my website too. Finished games hardly het updated though. Only for bug fixes and patches. So, once the game is done, you don't have to update the embed code either.

I see your point, but it is up to the poster to keep it up to date, if they want their game to be played.
