This game is about a game. The Quenta Game. What is the Quenta Game? Eric, the protagonist, is asking this question himself. He doesn't know how or why he's playing, and he doesn't want to be in the Quenta Game. But losing means death, and Eric won't accept that lying down. How hard could it be to win? All he has to do is go around helping people and earning Points, which keep him alive. At least, that's how it starts out. But as more is revealed about this mysterious game and Eric's memories come back, the game turns into more than just a game: it becomes something akin to a nightmare. Only this nightmare doesn't end when Eric wakes up. Because that's when the nightmare starts.
In Empty Possibilities, you play as Eric and gather Points by doing side quests. If you don't have enough Points, you die. If you're the last man standing, you win. Simple, right? But the more Eric plays the Quenta game, the more he realizes winning may not be so easy.
Eric will ride quite the emotinal roller-coaster--he'll feel the pain of losing a friend (or an enemy), but he'll also feel the joy of finding a new one. However, he won't ride this roller-coaster alone: Orion, Eric's guardian, is riding right along with him. Due to an unfortunate side effect of being a player in the Quenta Game, whenever Eric (or any player, for that matter) feels emotional stress, strange things enter his head--psyches. These psyches will try to corrupt Eric, and it is Orion's job to make sure they don't. Orion fights using nothing but Fidesoul and wit, and his fights are not in vain--without Orion, Eric would most likely go insane.
While I'm sure you have questions, such as "Who designed the Quenta Game?" and "What happens when you win?", I can't really answer them without spoiling the game. However, if you would like to learn more about the world, the Lore section is towards the end of this post.
Eric
Eric is the main character of Empty Possibilities. Partially due to his amnesia, he doesn’t know much, and isn’t certain what he knows is true. All he wants to do is escape, or win if possible. He is also very self-sacrificing.
Keria
Keria is the first person Eric meets. Would you believe she isn’t gullible at all? Of course, this means she is very trusting, and puts a lot of faith in the people she meets. She accepts new things quite easily, and she is also a team player, wanting to include everyone.
Brett
Brett wants to get out of the Game, and knows how to do so. He has a far better working knowledge of the game, but often doesn’t tell valuable pieces of information to his friends, and tries to do everything himself.
Robyn
Out of all the players, Robyn is the most hardworking and happy. She is a bit shy around all these older people, but wants to help them. She would much prefer one of them to win over her, whatever the consequences.
Orion
Orion Is Eric's guardian and possibly my favorite character. He does all of the fighting in the game. And while he may not appear to, he cares about Eric.
Minor Characters
Marissa
Marissa is a meddling Faeling who hijacked the Quenta Game just to mess with Eric. Winning for her is just a bonus.
Joy
Joy is a rather ditzy illusionist who acts as Marissa's underling. She isn't too bright, and while her illusions are good, her IQ ends up hampering her ability to follow a plan.
Max
Max is a rather enigmatic villain. Why? Because I haven't written any scenes with him yet.
Cris
Cris is a crystal (see what I did there?) who acts as Orion's compadre: he heals him, gives him levels, and makes him breakfast. All with a sarcastic tone, of course.
(This is big, so it goes into a spoiler. It also goes into a spoiler because, well...It's kind of a spoiler.)
Some science:
Fides are the dominant race, not the most nuemerous nor the biggest, but rule due to a few things. First, they have a soul. A Fidesoul is in the bloodstream, the bones, the whole Fide. If the Fidesoul stops functioning, then the Fide will die. However, certain things can be broken or cut off of a Fide and the Fidesoul will not be broken enough to cease functioning. Second, Fides have long lifespans. Third, their physical anatomy is decent. And fourth, Fides have personality. All other animals have up to three of these things, but no animal has a soul.
Some history:
Casus is country where most of the Fides live. It has many residents, and is the capital of the world, where the Leader resides. The very first Leader, Mr. Bieninch, was able to gather the Fides together during hard times. Everyone moved from the drought-ridden country of Nordon to Casus. The real thing that saved the Fides was simply healthy food. From this alone, they were able to build settlements, then towns and cities. They also valued skins and furs of the various animals native to Casus. When Mr. Bieninch died, some thought all was lost, but his son was just as good of a leader as his father, if not a better one, and kept the Fides together. Eventually he started a system of government that would be good for everyone. All workers got out what they put in, and all those who were unable to work were given aid. There were no taxes, communities would band together and fix roads and fight fires themselves. And for once, the Fides were prosperous. Laws were light, and there was no jail, only exile. However, soon the war with the Faelings began. When all was said and done, the Fides had been victorious. But again their leader had died, fighting for his people. They decided to elect a new leader, and made a law that any Leader who lied in his campaign would no longer be able to run. A Leader led for up to 10 years, but could quit at any time. 274 years after the Faeling War, Casus was quite the booming country. It was the biggest and the best. Most thought everything was fair. However, some people didn't like the "fairness" and rebelled. They started their own gang. Eventually, a few of them made it to the top of major companies. Soon after, people weren't getting their enough to feed their families. They infested the system, and destroyed it. Soon they were ruling Casus by controlling the food supply. However, the Last Great Leader was able to fight against these criminals, and exiled them forever. He got tangled up in legal matters, however, and was exiled himself. It has been 201 years since then, and Casus is having their 500th anniversary this year.
On Faelings:
Faelings are outcast from the Fides. A faeling looks like a fide, but can also take on other forms. However, they are doomed to die at the peak of their lifetime. When they take on other forms, their eyes do not change color. They also have the ability to change back into a Fide-like creature, and can transform into many different forms. No non-faeling knows what a faeling actually looks like.
On the Quenta Game:
The Quenta Game, or just Game, is the game all the characters are playing. The rules are long and complicated, but in the end it boils down to this: The Quentan (Player) who earned the most points wins. All the others die. Further rules include an elimination system. No one knows who, when, or how the next person will be eliminated. Eliminations are subtle and usually appear to be accidents. The game has 64 players. Each player plays with 3 other players, until only he or she remains. Once a player wins, they move on to play with the other winners. The players never see the same player more than once. Every time a match starts, all of the Quentans will lose their memories. Each player also has a guardian whose primary job is to protect their Quentans from psyches. Guardians are also allowed minimal intervention with the Quenta Game. [i can't tell you what happens when you win, of course. That would spoil the game!]
Here is a timeline (slightly edited for spoilers):

Orion being his usual self. (In context, this line is sarcastic.)
One of Thalzon's beautiful battlers. I quite like the battle system in this game, and Thalzon graphics make it even better.
Jive. It brings a whole new meaning to "talks like a sailor". Or at least this guy thinks so.
Stuff I need
Your support, of course. You guys are awesome.
Original art (I'd like to do this myself, but I'm not too good at art...).
The story completed (I'll do this myself).
BUG TESTERS.
If you can think of it, and it's game related, I could probably use your help with it.
The demo is coming soon, everyone. Please be patient and keep your fingers crossed, if all goes well it will be here by the end of January.
Aaaaand that's it for now. Hopefully I'll have the full game done before I die. Thanks, everyone!-Wallace
