I'll be taking down the download soon, since this version was released around May last year, and doesn't present an accurate version of what the new release will be like. This is just a list of updates that will appear:

UPDATES:

Exploration is now a combination of both world-map exploration and the open-endedness of the old demo.

Yes, now you can scratch around in peoples cabinets, and even find an object or two.

There are no enemy encounters on the world map. Battles are done through open-ended exploration, and enemies are indicated on-screen.

Regarding battles, this is what I've come up with.

- Special stat buffs/conditions or 'moodlets'.

i.e If Laine drops below 25% of her max HP and Patrick happens to become incapicitated, then she will become 'Enraged' i.ow. her ATK and DFS goes up by 75%. However, if Patrick is not KO'd, then he in turn, will get the 'Terrified' buff, which decreases his DFS and SPI by 50%.

Encountering the 'Nyx-type' enemies will give party members the 'Fear' moodlet as well, i.o.w, drops all stats by 50%.

Rare cases will see party members become 'Petrified', i.o.w, cannot act at all or to become 'Berserked'. Keep Reverse handy ( Siglud starts off with this skill ).

- Automatic status buffs to the entire party when party members drop to 50% or below of their maxHP.

- Weapon Triad: Each primary weapon type ( swords, spears and axes ) will have a unique 'element' attached to it. Swords will have the 'Slashing' element, spears the 'Piercing' element and Axes the 'Blow' element. All 2-handed weapons ( such as greatswords, heavy axes and spears ) will have the Blow element as well.

- It will affect the outcome of numerous fights with various creatures found throughout Elendia:

For example, 'transparent' or 'translucent' enemies such as the Sullaghan/slime family and Anemone family, are immune to all physical-based attacks. They are primarliry vulnerable to the poison status and fire magic.

'Shell-type' enemies, such as Crabions and Pinchions, are immune to Slashing and Piercing weapon types, as their natural defense makes it very hard for swords and spears to penetrate them. However, they are weak against heavy weapons with the 'Blow' element. The same holds true for most high-defense enemies.

These enemies are faster than you think... Don't even think of using ordinary swords and spears against them. Where's Pat when you need him? And ignore the battle faces. They are all placeholders. Same with the sprites.

- Undead enemies automatically have the 'Reverse' status effect on them. They can be damaged with Patrick's 'Mercy' skill, the Vitas Scrolls or skills with the 'Poison' status effect applied.

- Heavy weapons, while very powerful, have low accuracy. A Gauntlet or two is recommended. None of these weapons Hit is above 80... ><

Updated menu screens: With the new character art:

Any queries and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I'm looking for 3 more beta-testers to test this game! I already have 3 confirmed testers, but more would be welcome. ^^

Until next time! :D

Sent a PM your way about betaing, Luchi.

Battles are looking good! Nice to see you going down the weapon element path, I'm doing the same too (WE HAVE THE SAME ELEMENT NAMES OUR GAMES ARE BROTHERS IN THE SOUL~). I like the HP related status updates though, they sound nifty!

Looking forward to getting my hands on the new version though, looking beastly as usual.

Thanks quigon. ^^ You're officially my 4th tester. :D

I'm thinking of taking down the old download. I'm not sure how many have played ERD over here, (but most of you from Vx.net probably have ^^. I hope. lol) The current version, at only 2 hours( if you know what you are doing ) it really doesn't give an accurate picture of the current game. I've done quite a bit of re-writing ( storyline is still the same ) but there are a lot of things in the game that are clearer now ( like Laine's reaction to that crazy Orb, her general personality, the Altan Period, her real relationship with Pat *gasp!* etc, etc. ).

I'm wondering if I should release an open-beta about a week after my testers get it, but I'm a little wary about that, since I know about theft and plagairism...

I can't have a post without a screen or two, so here you go. ^^

Here's the new world map.

And the Landen Waterway, first dungeon and side-quest for Edgard, the head of the Landen Waterworks office.

That worldmap looks cool, it has some kind of painting like touch to it, maybe its just in that screenshot or due to the message window style, but it looks nice.

But er, is "bridging the bridge" really the right way to say that?

Not like "fixing the bridge"?

If people say it like that sure, just it sounds wrong to me imo.

@Necromus: Bridging does sound a bit awkard now that I think about it. I'll fix it. As for the world map screen, that's the tint I'm using that gives it that effect. :)

Yep, it's just the tint. And the cloud/shadow overlay. It gives the map varying shades of colour too.

Here's Patrick's in-game portrait.

I'm working as fast as I can to get the new release out for testing as well as for a public release ( after testing, of course ). A LOT has changed. It will be worth a 2nd playthough, even for those of you who have played the old version. :)

I just love Mack tiles lol, always looking good.

Shouldn't there be a shadow along the cliff, at the left side of the waterfall?

I'm looking forward to another demo, first one was cool, tho there were quite some passage errors.

I just hope the battle system was adjusted quite a bit, since that was really...well not exactly too hard, just sometimes too easy, sometimes u got 1 or 2 hit by enemies lol

Still, i spent like 1 1/2 hours battling all over the place and learing new skills, fun, fun.

@Necromus: I'm glad you found the battling fun. I'm doing something right there, at least. ^^ .I did remember grinding so Laine could get enough JP to get FrostWave. That was the only time I had to grind. Otherwise, the game is beatable by around lvls 9-11. They get more skills as well ( more pricier, too ) and I'll probably be implementing a Promotion system, where you characters class change at level 25 and lose their current abilities, but get more powerful ones in return. Of course, it means more art as well, since the characters portraits will change to reflect their new class. But I doubt this will be ready in time for the new release. This is late-game I'm talking about now. It's already clocking 5.5 hours and I've barely scratched the surface of the plot, so we can hopefully look forward to a 15+ hour completed game. :)

The newer version will be a little more challenging than the current demo

For example, Laine's Sure Strike ( that skill where she thumps an enemy up to 5 times in a row ) now has a 'Cooldown' effect, i.o.w. she can't act for a turn after using it. Same goes for the more powerful skills, especially the Fusion Skills. Never use them in succession. Sure Strike was pretty broken if Laine was equipped with a Claymore and had both Fury and Wrath stacked. lol I've seen her hit in upwards of 500+ damage ( from a critical ) on some sorry enemy. Rarely happens, though.

@Nelneo: Thank you. Looking forward to your feedback ( even if it is an old demo >< ).

Wow, has it really been a year since the last version of ERD was released? How time flies. The game has undergone several changes since the March 2011/May 2011 Re-release. Mainly graphical stuff, since the plot and characters remained intact. I'm hoping to get the new version out by... let's see? May maybe? lol, alliteration.

Just testing out my hand-painted parallax background. ^^

Part of the new introduction scene. I play too much Fire Emblem. ><

The video link below. Like I commented in my status update, Ludovico Einaudi is a genius. His music plays in the video.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/67992534/ScreenCapture_2012-03-24%2011.41.17%20AM.wmv

The game's current size is sitting at around 137mb ( that's 100mb for Audio 0_o and only 37mb for graphics ). I do love my music.

@luchino - the only thing i seem to hate about the custom portraits is the outline. it feels like it has been sketched which is not very appealing. have you tried synfig. it may help you.

the screenshots are very nice by the way.

@BulletPlus: That is just my style, I'm afraid. When I ink in my work, my art tends to 'lose' it character. It just doesn't look the same. I hope you respect my decision. :)

@zachfoss: I will be releasing an updated official demo, if that's what you mean. ( not the full release, that's still a long way off ). It's length will be more than twice as long as the current version ( since I figured 2 hours is far too short, so I made it 5.5 ) and will be even better than the one now available. And er.... mango? ^^

Hey Luchi, if you're still looking for beta testers, I'd be happy to help! :3 I'm good at breaking things. And finding mapping errors.

Certainly I could use one more beta-tester, Jaide. :) Thank you. Better update the OP with my list of testers. You guys can expect the testing to start around late April. ^^

Looking forward to it! I had a little run through (not a lot of time, had a pretty busy day) the demo you had up before again, I always get a little more motivated to go ahead when I see such prettiness. Honestly, this and SSP MAKE ME WANT TO MAKE GAMES. Which is nice. But yeah man, looking forward to testing, late April might be a bit busy for me but I can sort stuff out :)

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
