Enemy Graphics with their Battlers

Hi,

I'm hoping to develop a system to eliminate random encounters. I want to have enemies visible on the map, where on contact it triggers the battle sequence.

To do this, I will need a lot of enemy graphics for the map, with their associated battler. This is difficult to find, as artists usually only release one or the other when creating resources.

Does anyone know where I can find resources like this?

It has to be free for commercial use.

EDIT: The selection that comes with the software is obviously too limited for this purpose.

Haven't seen one... One thing you might want to do is use sprites as battlers so that you can just go and find spritesheets. If you want them animated in battle, you'd need a script though.

I don't think that would work.

I've already settled to use a front view battle system, so animations are not necessary. I don't think the graphics on the spritesheets would work as they would probably be to small and then downward facing graphics may be at the wrong angle as front facing is ideal.

Then you'd probably need to request a lot of resources which might cost you...


Well, if you go with like the PV Games stuff, they do have battlers for most of the characters/monsters I think.

Alternatively, you get creative.  For example, you could have a troop with a number of different enemies in it.  You pick just one to be in all troops in that dungeon or on that map, and that is the enemy whose sprite appears.  I did this for my second game, using Thalzon's battlers and frankenspriting for the on-map sprites.  It worked quite well, and no one complained.

Yup, that was an idea to fall back onto, depending on how many resources I am able to gather. After all, it has to be enough for an entire game, and while grouping battlers under one enemy sprite takes down the number of resources required significantly, it can still be that a lot is needed in the end to keep things from getting bland.

Is Thalzon's battlers free for commercial?

Are sprites included for at least some of the battlers?

It seems with limited resources, this may be the way I have to go.

In case you haven't noticed (I didn't realize how many there are before purposely looking) a lot of the battlers have equivalents in the characters section of the RTP, depending on what kind of enemies you want to use.

A list I made for another requester:

For VX Ace (Spritesheet in Characters - Battler)

Evil - Bandit, Fanatic, General, Mage, Priest, Swordman, Assassin, Rogue

Monster 3 - Bat, Gayzer, Hornet, Jellyfish, Rat, Sahagin, Scorpion, Spider

People4 - Captain, Soldier

BigMonster1 - Chimera, EvilKing, Kerberos, Lamia

Monster1 - Darklord, Death, Ghost, Icelady, Ifrit, Imp, Orc, Skeleton

BigMonster2 - Demon, Dragon, EvilGod, Ogre

Spiritual - Earth/Fire/Wind/WaterSpirit, Fairy, and God & Goddess

Monster2 - Plant, Slime, Succubus

Actor5-4 looks like Thief-F.

Thalzon's battler are only battlers.

Yes, I was aware that there were some battlers with their graphics already included. But I will need more than that. Thanks for your suggestion though!

I'm pretty sure Game Character Hub lets you make literally anything into a sprite, so there's that...

Trust me, you don't need to be a digital artist. Have you used the Character Generator? It's like a x100 version of that

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll try to look into it when I get the time, but currently I'm just completely occupied with creating my battle system, mapping and eventing my game.

I remain open to suggestions to battler packages.

SadGhoster87, GCH only has people, not monsters, and the graphics that come with it are exactly the same that come with RM only edited into pieces for easy combining.  I don't think that'll work in this case.
