I'm currently doing a bit of everything with my project: a little mapping here and a bit of dialogue there.
When it comes to enemy selection, I tend to go off the beaten path and try to include monsters that are less likely to be used elsewhere. Sure, you have your stock monsters like dragons and trolls and even Greco-Roman Mythology-related ones like the Minotaur and Centaurs.

The stuff I go for goes into Medieval myth (with its headless and dog-headed humans), parts of Greco-Roman that aren't normally trod, and beyond.

It brings me to my subject for this thread Japanese yokai. If you've played any of the Pocky and Rocky games or seen Spirited Away, you know about these. Yo-Kai Watch is pretty much a comedy anime/game series based around these creatures.

They'd make for pretty good enemy ideas if someone had a chance to use them. These are my findings on how they could be used in a game.

Kappa: Probably the most likely to be used. Lives around freshwater and may have Water-based spells.
Keukegen: Definitely usable for abandoned mansions/castles or even swampy areas.
Nue: Was used as a boss in Breath of Fire III.
Gashadokuro: The size alone would make it a boss. Most likely has a Darkness element.
Omukade: Another potential boss. May have Earth and Poison-based spells.
Jorogumo: Poison-resistant enemy. Found in dark areas like caves and dark forests.
Basan: A giant fire-breathing rooster/turkey. You read that correctly.

These aren't really requests, just some idea pitches. If one can think of more that could be used out of this subject, feel free to jump in.
