Enemy not casting certain abilities

I'm trying to make a boss that uses shields that negate all damage types except for one. Once the boss is hit with the specified damage type, the shield vanishes. I've set up the states correctly, and I'm pretty sure I've set up the skill correctly; but the boss for some reason will never cast even one of the shields. Your mistake is in the rating numbers you used - those are not direct weight numbers, there are conditions to allow for more complex patters disabling some skills.


And in your case, the rating for the double attack is so high that it disables all other skills.


Check the details in the help file, but only the three highest active rating numbers will determine the skill selection - that is why the highest numbers are usually conditioned and not always.


In your case, the double attack has the highest rating of 6 - that means that only skills with the ratings 6,5,4 will go into the pattern.

Besides what Andar already said, I'll state the more obvious: make sure you set up the features of the enemy correctly (add skill type/skills) and that the boss has enough MP to execute the skills.


EDIT: For some reason, when I tried it out myself, the features don't seem to influence anything. So just ignore this post.

@EDOSMich Enemies never needed the skill types (they can even use skills that are set to type NONE), that is a mechanism that is intended for the actors only.


But all skills need to be paid, which means that you have to keep the MP/TP cost of a skill in mind when designing the enemies.

Thanks all! Honestly, I had little to no knowledge on the rating system; and frankly feel pretty stupid knowing that the answer was that simple.
