Developer's note

I’m Kevin, an independent game developer working on my game and passion project Eniko: Ghosts Of Grace.

Eniko: Ghosts Of Grace is a story-rich action adventure rpg that pays hommage to jrpg games and 90's gaming through it's unique retro 2.5D pixel art look, but is bold and refreshing enough to carve it's own path.

The great Fenrir Wars lay in the past but in Belrynna, the heroics of the war's Champions is celebrated zealously in the Arena. Livia is a promising young Warrior training at Zigmond Academy. Gusty but ambitious, she will both have to fight the mighty Fenrir in the Arena and deal with the political games outside the Arena. Will Livia be able to climb the ranks and become a champion of the Arena? After a fateful encounter, everything she believes in will be put to the test.

Join Livia on her adventure through a tale that explores what it means to be family, betrayal versus loyalty and the long-term effects of indoctrination and a brutal war on society.

Features
  • Discover vibrant lively cities and villages through side quests and hidden areas
  • Run, jump and use tool to explore this unique 3D world with a nostalgic retro pixel look
  • Test your skill against the fearsome Fenrir in the Arena and climb the rankings
  • Action Battle System that combines the best of 90’s and modern action rpg’s
  • Intricate License System and Blacksmith System to improve your stats
  • Uncover the hidden truths of Belrynna and the origins of the Fenrir conflict

Closing Words/Q&A
When will the game be released?
Undecided. An Alpha demo has been released on May 26th 2022. The next step is creating a full demo and launch a Kickstarter campaign in Q3 2022.

Will this game be commercial?
Yes, i'm planning to sell on Itch.io, Steam, GameJolt, RPG Maker selling platforms, ...

I want to be involved in the creation, is this possible? Can I contact you?
I'm open to any suggestions, ideas etc. Send a PM and who knows what comes of it? I am mainly looking for someone who can help with the story, script and dialogues. The story is super important to me and actually the main reason for this game. However, I'm not a native English speaker and with so many aspects of building a game, it would be great to have someone who can build on my story and character ideas and help them come to life.

What more can I expect in the coming time?
This thread should evolve a lot over the next months. I'm working on custom character art, I'm planning on sharing the OST soon and of course more gameplay info, screenshots and updates.

I'm also getting a lot of questions regarding the use of the MV3D plugin. I'm planning to start making MV3D guides and tutorials to explain everything how it's done. Let's just hope I find the time :aswt:

"I'm planning to release a demo at the end of Q1 2020 and build on it from there. "

I'm sure you mean 2021. Will keep an eye out for the demo.
Looks good. I like the 3d visual style. I don't know how it plays so I'll have to wait till the demo to see.

Yaay! I dig the clumsy-lookin' 3D environments! Also, story premise seems pretty intriguing! Will keep watching.

Thanks! ^^ Funny how people's eye catches those boats so often. The perspective is off so that's why they look a bit funky, I'l replace them with a custom version at one point. I do like the floating "animation" though. or do you mean the bigger ships in the back?

Wooh! I totally agree! I know some things are looking a bit clumsy or quirky but most off it adds to the character of the game imo, i love it ^^ Story is what I'm excited about the most. I kept the story a bit vague and superficial in the post, but once I released a demo I can dig deeper into that in posts.

This is outstanding btw. It's amazing to see someone do something so unique with a 2D engine. I'd love to play it and test it out if you ever need it :)

Thank you a whole bunch @XyphienLLC ! It's alway a big step to present your ideas to the "outside world", so far the reactions have been very positive and it's all a bit overwhelming, but it motivates me hugely to deliver :)

I'll definitely need some playtesters before releasing a demo. If you're up for that, you can follow the itch.io, Facebook page or Twitter as I'll announce it there.

I like that Octopath Traveler-esque nostalgic vibe. Definitely keeping my eye on this.

Thank you for your reply :) I only learned about Octopath Traveler graphics's after I started this project but I agree, that game has very similar graphci style (albeit more professiona/high-budget).

Oh, also, things I really like: your font, your menus, and the fact that (from what I can see) you buy licenses to acquire skills!

@alice_gristle thanks ^^ and correct! Buying licenses is one of the ays to improve your stats and skills. At some point I'll write a blogpost or make a video explaining the systems in the game.

Everything's looking great! FFXII-esque license board got my hyped actually! : D

The 3D look sets this apart from many other titles already, but everything looks very polished otherwise too.

@orange~ Thank you! :LZSproud: I also always loved FF XII's system. The system in Eniko is not a copy, but it definitely is inspired by. My main goal for the 3D was so that I could build location that feel new and not another rtp copy. If you already know how a game will look and feel after playing 2 minutes, it takes a lot away from the magic. Custom tilesets or my approach here are two ways to break that mold.

The first piece of character art is finished! Big thanks to @Kato-A ! I was also able to update the banner because of it and I'm very happy with the result :)

Just about finished I reckon.
This could probably be an entire thread, but it’s really interesting how replaying a game several years later can change how you relate to a character. I think Tidus from FFX got such a bad rap. I getchu. Completely different reaction as an adult now.
As you see, I still enjoy writing tutorials. Is there anything specific you want to see? (I know mapping and editing/resource making is usually popular, but those are very broad topics)
Well, I wanted to expand player battlers visually and now have 3 sheets and counting for each of my players party.
1. Regular sheet
2. The character has turned stone sheet.
3. Using potions sheet.

Technically the main hero has 4 since he starts with a wooden sword, and I felt that the battler should reflect that until he gets a metal one.

Right back to the RM game dev grind in about 15 minutes. :LZSexcite:
